It will also keep the flea population on him down to a minimum.

Perfectly alright for a dog to swim in the sea water and about swallowing sea water it can actually be good helping kill bacteria in the stomach but along as it is not to much. The salt water is also good for the skin specially for disinfecting cuts or small wounds the only thing that the sea water will do to your dog is dry out it`s hair a little bit,but when you wash your dog just buy some moisturising oils and put it in the water.Make sure there`s some water for the dog when you get back to where you would be staying but let the dog enjoy the water it`ll love you even more for such an exiting time.

it's perfectly fine just make sure you don't let him go really far out and make sure he doesn't stay in for a really long time or else he gets really tierd and doesn't want to do any thing and if he has a hard time swimming you can get him a doggie life suit also you should go in the water with him at sertent beaches because he can be carried in by the tide so all you really have to do is watch after him in the water and it's ok if he swallows some water just make sure he doesn't swallow a lot of water or else he could maybe get sick by the water.

It is fine for your dog to go into the sea. Try not to allow him to drink too much of the water because it will irritate his stomach & throat if he throws up too much. If you think he has swallowed a lot of sea water try to encourage him to drink plenty clean water & this may lessen the effects.
My problem when I took my dogs to the beach was not that they swallowed sea water but tried to eat the sand (I think they thought it was the snow they had eaten before).

My BC, Boston, (BBC) loves the sea. However, he does get 'the runs' if he is in the water too often. Also the salt water can cause irritation of the skin, you need to get him washed afterwards. I use the Barry Burn to flush his coat. The North Sea is cold here in Angus at this time of the year. He doesn't bother! Be careful about too much exercise. At 6 months his young bones are very soft. BC's will run their little hearts out if you let them. Best dogs in the world bar none.

Swimming is a great form of exercise for dogs.
There are those who will drink seawater, even to the point of making them sick on the spot and giving them diarrhea. However, you might -if he doesn't learn from his own mistakes-try giving him a drink before you take him out or taking some plain tap water with you for him to drink whilst he's there.
If you are going to take him regularly to the beach try to rinse his coat off every so often-again with plain water.Sea-water will dry out his coat and skin otherwise after repeated dips in the sea.
But at the end of the day you're doing him no harm whatsoever.Mines down there too!!

I take my girls to the beach all the time, and so does my best friend. The dogs love it and it is great exercise.
Bring a lot of fresh water for the dog though. Salt water will cause dehydration - which would be the cause for upset tummy.
As a word of caution - if untreated it can also cause brain swelling. It happened to my best friends dog. She's fine now but it was because of the lack of fresh drinking water.
Have Fun

It's fine. My dog always swallows loads of sea water, if he gets too much (seawater and excitement which he always does), he pukes it up, and carries on as if nothing has happened. He's been gulping sea water for 11 years and always looks forward to getting some more! Remember, dogs have iron guts compered to our own..

Dogs can go longer at night than in the day. At 5 months he may not be able to hold it 8 to 9 hours in the day. How much room does he have in the crate? Too much room isn’t good because it doesn’t discourage peeing and too little room can often result in the dog laying in the pee because he just can't hold it anymore. If the dog gets used to laying in urine you’re going to have a really tough time breaking him of it. I would suggest enlisting in the help of an obedience trainer, they should be able to give you enough information to successfully correct this problem in one session.

If he has too much sea water, he's have the runs or be sick. He's only a pup so take it easy. Don't forget to rinse him off in fresh water and make sure he has access to plenty of fresh water so he does not dehydrate. Enjoy his fun and he'll love you for it but remember he's a baby.
