I come to share about Jesus...If one person come to Jesus because of something I said here it is worth it. If I am doing something that offends God, may he stick me down.

I deconverted from Catholicism to atheism here, with the help of my son, who has always been an atheist. It was not an easy process. Although it has made me happier, it was frightening in many ways. At first, it was righteous indignation. As a Catholic, I felt it was my god-given duty to educate others about the faith and battle non-believers. As time passed, I began to see the absurdity in my responses, and after doing a lot of reading and talking with my son, I realized that I'd never bought into the whole thing and was basically going through the motions because I thought that it made me a better person. When I gave up religion, my relationship with my mother ended and my fiance broke off our engagement. Neither of them wanted to deal with it, and that was lonely. I didn't celebrate Christmas, and that was lonely. So I started an online group for non-believers, and started connecting with other people, and I joined a community that appeals to my sense of logic and rationality. I come here to see their names, connect with them on 360, and answer questions from the perspective of one who once thought she believed, but really didn't, deep down.

I'm here for a variety of reasons.

Each one has it's appeal.

But what brings me back over and over is the opportunity to see the actual substance behind the veneer of compassion, charity, love, and so on that so many religious people have as their public face.

It's an education.

I have certain rabid religious websites bookmarked for the same reason - to know what people are *actually* trying to accomplish, as opposed to the more benign public face they put on their actions.

I think it's important to know these things.

Secondarily I'm here to give guidence, when I can, to people seeking; to add my opinion and perspective to general questions about religion; and to clear up misconceptions where I can.

Here are my reasons..
1. To make people think.
2. to learn different perspectives from others which helps to foster tolerance.
3. To answer questions that I might need a survey on for papers and or/ books that I may be writing.

I'm here to explain Islam to those who request information about it. Not to those who just assume that Muslims want to destroy everyone who is a non-Muslim, these people for the most part are too set in their stubborn beliefs that Islam is evil. Though it does seem like I spend 90% of my answers just defending my faith, the same could be said about almost everyone here. All I ask is that you don't judge a book by its cover, give us a chance. The majority of those who follow Islam are actually very nice people, but we need the chance to show who we are.

As-Salamu Alaykum - Peace be upon you

I enjoy the discussion mostly. Also, there are a lot of funny characters here which make this place pretty entertaining a lot of the time.

I got sucked into this by a question by Depak Chopra that was on the main page of Yahoo. I stayed because I thought it was a serious Q&A place and that I could be of service. Now I am here because I am addicted, but I am trying to break it.

I like to see how other people think. You get a pretty good grasp of the mindset of others when you come here and read questions and responses. It helps me to know what I am up against as a Christian and it pushes me to work on what I believe.

I'm here to help if I can.
Every once in a great while there is a good question asked by a sincere questioner concerning the Bible and/or Christian beliefs.
Answering the questions keeps me familiar with many Bible references.
