I think that some of you are being kind of hard on this asker.... This seems like a legitimate question.
God says he will reveal things in their time. You may read something in the bible now that has no meaning to you or no effect on your life and you don't understand it. But when the time comes in your life that you need it....God will reveal it's meaning to you. That is what is so mindblowingly fantastic about the bible!

Simply read The Sermon On The Mount. You may have to do a bit of research because English is a fluid language and some words such as meek have changed considerable in meaning over the centuries.
But simply read, beginning in Mathew 5 and if you read with an open mind, how can you come to any other conclusion than this was the most amazing, revolutionary, perfect guide for living ever taught.

First tell us if you are serious in your quest.
I'm not being sarcastic here - but I've seen many questions such as this posted, and either you are truly on a quest for the knowledge you seek or you are sparking the ire of many people on purpose..... which is it?
Put your money where your mouth (or in this case - keyboard) is
have you truly pursued the answer to this through a viable venue such as a qualified born again Christian Pastor or councillor? Have you done what the scripture asks you to do and ask the questions you have of God himself? (it's called prayer).
EDIT
thank you for sharing that you are/were Catholic.
I too was born raised and confirmed Catholic, but found, like you, that the Catholic religion did not satisfy my curiosity about who God truly is. I languished for years before I decided to pursue study of the actual bible rather than relying on the teachings of the Catholic catechism. I found a whole new understanding of who our Lord is. Again I say, if you are truly on a quest, I hope you will follow the above advice and speak to a Spirit filled, born again Pastor of a bible believing fellowship. Or join an ALPHA group near you (google ALPHA - you'll find lots of info). These groups are non threatening and answer your honest questions with honest answers - and no pressure.

For me, it is many things.
1. I feel better as a Christian than I do as an atheist. I have rejected all of this several times in my 48 years... but I just feel better believing than not.
2. I have studied the Bible and have decided, based on what it says about itself, that I do not have to take the entire thing as literally true. in the OT, it says that the laws and prophecies are inspired by God, but makes no such claims for the histories, poetrys, etc. In the NT, there is not even that much of a claim. indeed, the NT is basically a collection of letters and personal accounts that was voted on as being a good foundation. Only revelations carries any sort of claim of perfection, and it is the most debated book in the thing- it came the closest to being voted out.
I take the histories (Genesis, for example) as being teaching stories that may or may not reflect reality. I take the poetry (Psalms, Song of Solomon) as the equivilant of todays hymns- moving but not 'the inspired word of God'. most of the letters in teh NT were written from one person trying to offer the best advice or insights they could to various groups with thier own problems.
I also remember that virtually every word of the Bible was meant for the Jews- and even then, mostly the adult males. It was written for a specific population in a specific place with a specific shared culture.- and that not every teaching is equally applicable to us here and now.
So what is left? A collection of teachings that encourages forgiveness, personal responsibilty, community/watching out for one another, not being attached to possessions, etc.
If you listen to a copy of the Bible on tape, it is fascinating which lessons come through the clearest. When you do this, it seems sillier and sillier to mess around with the details that we so love to struggle or niggle over!

First of all have you actually sat down and tried to read the Bible? If not then I suggest that you do so. The Bible is a very interesting book once you actually sit down and read it. It has guide lines in it on how we are supposed to live our lives the right way, by following what was written. Their are many different types of Bibles out their but one of the best is the New King James version. You might want to look into getting a Bible that is written in plain English that way it is easier to understand!

If the book really is written by the guy who runs the universe, I would think that simple curiosity would be enough. Many people spend lots of money to read about the personal lives & thoughts of movie stars and other famous people; God is more famous than anyone else.
Besides, the Bible tells you how to get into Heaven, as well as how to get onto God's good side so that everything in life works out in the long run. Simple self preservation and a desire to live life to its fullest -- rather than waste it -- would also seem to be sufficient motivation.
It also anwers questions sush as why are we here, what is the purpose of life, etc., that everyone keeps asking themselves.

Most religious texts aren't "mindblowingly fantastic," and few people take such texts as "being absolute, correct, and true."
Rather, most texts are accepted, and the followers seek relevance and revelation by reading them and applying them to their lives.
It's a little like finding a lover. You're probably not dating people because they are absolutely perfect, right? You probably date (or dated) them knowing they are limited and imperfect. Healthy relationships are based on accepting imperfections, and trying to work them out, or work around them.
The same is true for religions. People come to a religion because it appeals to them, and is available to them. Many people accept that the Religion is imperfect, and make decisions based on real world observations as well as Religious belief and texts.

There's not very much in the actual bible that snags them, it's mostly the way its told to them by their preacher/minister/priest usually in a fashion stressing how much god loves them and how special they are. It is told to them that it's the word of god, and that word of god in the bible tells them that there's something better after this life, which I think almost everyone hopes is true.
Being raised a christian, being sent to christian schools, and having read the bible several times, I can tell you, there isn't much in the bible that I ever found to be beautiful, nor did 99% of my classmates. My friends' parents mostly weren't religious either, but they were "christians" nevertheless. Typical christians, hypocrites.
The bible freaks are just that, bible freaks. They've become obsessed with their religion, just like someone that is obsessed with Star Trek. Unlike being obsessed with Star Trek though, their hobby leads them to condemn everyone that doesn't think like them to eternal suffering.

I take it as face value in the sense that God says what He promises.
He takes care of us, looks out for us and gives us instructions.
If you are in doubt do some research on the different things archaeologists find in the Middle East. Very fascinating.
Read the first five books and see all the provisions God gave to the children of Israel,
Read the book of Acts and see how He moved throught the apostles. Very fascinating. You just have to believe

When Christ in the last super with his followers he said, "O Lord, If I can be chosen to avoid this torture, I beg to avoid." He knew he will be hanged and Killed, he still went there to acept the result. This was a brave Hero. He knew that his Karma. None can change.
In the Bible: world creation chapter"Adam eaten the fruit of classified sin and holly tree and were droven out of Eden with his wife Eve.
It is because; since human being started to classify which is sin and which is holly, the variation of idea cause to argue and fight and kill. The sin was started. They would not be happy any more. We knew that the senses we can see and feel are sin/holly. It depands how you use the senses and what the senses are.
