All throughout the New Testament (especially Matthew), they tested Him. These so-called teachers of the Law tried ever so hard to trap Jesus in His words and such......
Look in Matthew 22.....this is a good example of the Pharisees and Saduccees trying to trap Him.

They really had very few conflicts with Jesus. Sometimes they threw in some of their own traditions like washing their hands up to their elbows and a few other "heavy burdens" but, really, they weren't nearly as bad as you might think.

Read your Scriptures carefully -- NOWHERE does it ever mention Jesus entering into the home of a Sadducee...but again and again he does enter into the home of Pharisees which shows that Jesus had more in common with the Pharisees.

Sadducees were bible literalists....like today's fundies. If it wasn't specifically in the Torah, it just didn't exist for them. Things like belief in angels, the Resurrection of the dead and the after-life.

"That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question" (MT 22:23).

"Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead." 7When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. 8(The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.)" (Acts 23:6-8)

Because the Sadducees were such literalists, very conservative and "attached" to the Temple, when the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. the Sadducees all died out. ALL of today's Jews are descended from Pharisees. It is thought that Jesus himself was a Pharisee due to his beliefs in angels, the Resurrection of the dead and the afterlife.

NOTE: These three -- belief in angels, the resurrection and the afterlife are three Traditions of the Jewish faith -- they are NOT in the Torah. So...........for all anti-Traditionalists out there, Jesus DID accept the use of Sacred Tradition!!!!!

3 "famous" Pharisees: Paul (see quote from Acts above), Nicodemus (John 3:1) and Joseph of Arimathea (probably a Pharisee since Scripture does not ever mention any Sadducees as his disciples).

Matt. 23: 13 -39 gives Jesus attitude toward the Pharisees.

Gamaliel, was a wise Pharisee see his account at Acts 5: 34-39

The Pharisees became so concerned with following the law to the letter, that they went overboard. Not using God's name because they were afraid to use it in vain. They were more concerned with traditions, unwilling to accept Jesus and change.

Even today, I worked with a woman who was Jewish and it seemed that the whole religion is their traditions. They still go overboard, such as they could not even tear toilet paper on the day of one of their holidays, drive a car or eat......but nothing was said about her living with a man or having an abortion. That always reminded me of the Pharisees attitudes in Jesus day.

Pharisees held strongly to the Laws of Moses and demanded that everyone, except them or course, live strictly by them. Paul, originally Saul, was a Pharisee of the Pharisee's, born in Rome and zealously persecuted the Christians, even unto death and the burning of all their worldly possessions, until God blinded him and turned his heart to Jesus. Most of Jesus' ministry was surrounded by them always trying to trick him and to catch him in an untruth so they could get rid of him. He was leading people away from their beliefs and this insighted them to almost riotous behavior. When I said the Laws of Moses earlier, I meant not only the 10 commandments, but all the others as well, totaling around 600 laws. (Remember, ALL the Laws of Moses were given to the Israelites because they had stopped believing in and trusting on God. He gave the laws to turn their hearts back to them. He knew they could NOT keep them.)

Pick up a good study Bible, or even a shareware Bible program and check for references to Pharisees.

Study before you bash, the Bible was not written by 4 men after the death of Jesus. You are referring to 4 gospels,a small part of the Bible. The Bible described Earth exactly how it is spherical suspended in mid air, and 1000's of prophecy's from the Bible have come true.
