Well, no.

I don't think it's a "hoax" because that would imply that the people who wrote it down didn't believe in any of it themselves and were willfully conning people - and I don't think that's the case.

The OT seems to be 1) a conglomeration of myths, some cobbled together from other religions, and some with new stuff; 2) a somewhat slanted "history" of a certain tribal people, with all the usual stuff about their own goodness and rightness that any people have who are trying to make themselves look good, and 3) a recounting, in mythic terms, of that people's attempt to impose their tribal religion on everyone else..

And the NT - well, fully half of it is written by a guy saying he knows more about someone he never met in the flesh than people who DID.

I'd only classify the Paul stuff as a "hoax", and I even have trouble with that, because I'm not entirely sure if he was just an opportunistic power-seeker or if he himself believed what he said and wrote.

That's an overly simplistic view of how this kind of literature evolves as well as a misunderstanding of the intent of the authors. The Bible contains a variety of lieterary genres from multiple periods of time with varying degrees of attempts to be factual versus attempts to create a theological tale. Certainly Ezra and his scribes re-tooled babylonian myths and presented them to the Jews as "lost Books of Moses" that was a hoax. When the prohpets wrote their polemics they were making political statements and cultural critiques. It was a hoax to claim they were divine revelations of course. But the Bible as a whole is a collection, not one giant conspiracy to defraud, nor do most of those peddling it know how much of it is false and contradictory, though some certainly do and peddle it anyway.

You think the Bible is just a hoax to raise money
Shouldnt giving money be more or priority in the Bible. It states we should tithe 10% but only do it if we do it cheerfully. The preaching of love and peace isnt a hoax. There are Ministries that abuse their power and make it about money. But thats not what Jesus intended.

Have you ever tried to read the thing? I was bored the last time I was off work so I started to read a bible I had in the wardrobe. Its says that if you look at a female with the thought of lust that you have to pull your eye out and throw it in the fire or else your entire body will burn for eternity after you die. Someone must have been on LSD when they wrote this thing as there is a lot of crazy stuff like this in the bible. Fundamentalist Christian preachers tend to pick and choose what parts of the bible they quote from but go very silent if you quote certain parts of it to them

Go get the Chuck Misler series and see if you still feel the same. He talks for 24 hours about the Bible and the proof that actually does exist to prove it is indeed real. In fact, in its original language it has hidden codes that are impossible for even a computer to duplicate. Not to mention the validity of the lineages in the Bible But why are you asking it if you don't somewhere in your soul KNOW God exists?

Also, go to www.wayofthemaster.com and watch some of the videos with that supposedly open mind you probably profess to have.

PS you are actually agnostic.

The Bible is the cornerstone of Christian faith. When you say the word of God is a hoax, you are saying that what is contained in it is false, therefore God (the Christian God, anyway) is a hoax.
Faith is believing something without physical proof. You can't have one without the other.

If you have faith in nothing, then this world is the only existance you will have, with all its pollution, crime, diseases, stress, and negativity. Nothing positive to look forward to, and only yourself to depend on.

What a sad, lonely life.

Blessings

No and could be! To UR MY BEST FRIEND, take a chill pill. they aren't putting down God, only you are getting offended, they are just asking a question based on their own beliefs. By the way, there is a Bible verse in the new testament about people who say they believe and they have offense.

The Bible itself is not a hoax, it's a book of Christian mythology. They have forgotten this. Read as mythology - an explanation for the way things are, and parables exemplifying an honorable life - it is an excellent book. Read as literal "history" and "fact" and the word of god from his own lips, it's abyssmal.

But not a hoax.

Has it been proven the Shroud of Turin was a hoax? I haven't looked into this.

The bible is VERY accurate piece of history and is the truth.

The bible is a collection of myths from over 2,000 years ago intended to tell people how to behave in order for an orderly and structured society to flourish. Take that how you will.
