I'm new to owning a cat and well recently I've had some issues with it. At first I thought I've had some B.O. problems but it turns out I'm not. I actually smell pretty good. But people around me seems to be reacting to something I bring in to the environment I enter. Some told me about cat piss and stuff so I'm not sure. I can't seem to get rid of the cat hair in one of my coat but now that my bedroom is cat-free and I still wash my clothes weekly and they smell pretty good even if I wore them all day. Someone said wash your clothes and pretty much everything with vinegar. Will that work? They seem to be having some kind of allergic reaction to my presence and I know I don't smell because they still enjoy my company....they just sneeze a lot. Help!!! I don't even know where to begin to figure it out? Could it be mold or something in my clothing?

well, the cat is female and got her 'fixed' already. she doesn't piss anywhere at all...she just uses her litter. she does shed hair a lot and i guess i have to get in the habit of brushing her all the time. my bedroom doors and closet are always closed. i clean the house weekly but i guess more is needed then. it's hard since i don't live in a small house so tackling the cleaning is a pain for one person. i decided to buy this expensive air filter as well for my furnace today that's suppose to pick up dander and not spread it throughout the house and i hope it helps because i don't think they give refunds for used filters at the store. she pretty much stays in the basement. she definitely loves her window and she sits by the window all the time. any other suggestions? and thanks for all your help by the way.

I don't think it is you either . if it is cat pee then you might want to wash your clothes in some shout (any pre stain remover will do ) and put some baking soada in your washing machine let your clothes soak bed clothes any thing that your kitty could have slept on or marked as his own . try giving your cat a bath if he does not like the water then you can buy some dry shampoo made just for cats . if they are having a allergic reaction then the people you are around may be allergic to the cat dander or the oil in your cats fur the only two things I know of to do for that are keep your cat sheared as in a haircut . or use special shampoo for cat dander also keep your home well vacumned that will get rid of the cat dander in you furniture and your carpet . and if you pet your cat often or scratch him then make sure you wash your finger nails really well . I do not think it is mold because if it was you and your cat would be sick too hope this helps

Vinegar is good for getting rid of a lot of odors.
But you seem to be having trouble with cat fur and dander, rather than just plain odor- though that can be bad. Here are some things that might help:
1) Vacuum frequently, and dust with a damp cloth or with a spray such as Endust. Make sure you vacuum your furniture too.
2)Include your curtains once in a while. You will be amazed at where the cat fur can go.
3)Make sure your kitty has a good quality food to control her shedding.
4)Also related to the shedding, groom her to help get rid of the loose fur.
5)Make sure to spay or neuter your kitty, if it hasn't been done yet. That will control the urge to mark territory.
Good luck!

Heck, I own two lovely long haired cats, both of which sleep on the bed, couch, and well every where. I vacumm my house thrice a week and go over every thing with a fine picked comb. the cats may not like the fabric softner that you wash or dry your clothes in or just that when you walked in they had to sneeze. It could be the dander or something in your clothing.

this will happen. the best way to start eliminating the cat smell is by groomong your cat every day and applying car deodorant that you can get at the pet shop. i can tell you from what you are saying that your cat is male. this is because male cats tend to have a odour. when you groom your cat, have a set of old clothed to do it in, so that you good clothes dont get covered in hair! and wach them seperatly. once you have washed the cat hair clothes, put your washing machine on an empty cycle. this will ensure that your next load wond get covered in the left over hair. training your cat to go to the loo outside helps. a daily spey of the house with pet odour spray and a good hoover will help!
hope i have helped!

It sounds like your friends are allergic to cats.
It's actually not the cat hair that people are allergic to it's their dander.
Even though you've washed your clothes and the cat isn't in your room the dander is still in your house.
Sorry, but that's the only thing I can think of.

It doesn't sound like you're brushing your cat daily. You really need to groom him everyday, and if you don't he might start getting hairballs and throwing up all over your carpet. Just get a lintbrush and make sure your closet doors are closed-cats just LOOOVE to get in and sleep inside, thus getting their hair all over clothes. Also-is your cat male and if so is he neutered? Because if not did you know male cats spray their semen along with pee all over your home? Get him fixed and he will be the best smelling most docile creature in the world.

Do you have well water? Get some water sofener. or most likely your carrying cat dander on your clothes. But I would definately have my place checked for mold as well. Vinegar does work but can fade some clothes. I think your co-workers are messing with ya.
