Non Tracking Cat Litter

2016-10-07 05:07:53 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

You asked the PRO!!!!! I have four cats. It is a constant battle. There is no way to completely stop all the tracking but here are some things that can help. Get a covered litter box. Make sure to use Scoopaway or Freshstep clumping litter. NON clumping litters track worse, unless your cat has a particular thing for non clumping litter. I found these two brands are about the best in tracking and smell control. Go to your local walmart and purchase a deep grooved car mat or one of those mats that looks like plastic grass LOL. Put them in front of your litter box. Also if you have a small space or closet to put the litter box in it's even better. My cats have a habit of going and dashing, spewing litter along the way. I now have thier boxes in the closet with the doors half open. they can no longer "go and dash" they have to step out on to the mat and walk through the door.

Put a mat directly in front of the litter box. I don't mean anything rough like a door mat or some of the hard plastic things they sell at Petsmart....that will create a different problem and may actually cause your cat to start going outside the box.

Get a small piece of carpet or inexpensive smooth mat from Lowe's or Walmart. It should be enough to catch the litter that's clinging to the cat's paws, without discouraging him from using the litter box.

Also, if your cat has long hair, you may want to ask the vet to cut out the "potty patch" in the back, or keep the hair trimmed along the back legs and belly where damp litter can accumulate and then fall off later as it dries.

Good luck!

You could try a different brand of litter, some tracks less than others.

Also the mat is a good idea, but make sure that it doesn't have rubber backing on it.
I know several people who's cats started to poop and pee on the mat.
According to my Vet the smell from the rubbing backing smells like cat urine to some cats and they may use the mat instead of the litter box.

Litter might stick to moist paw pads or get stuck in furry feet, only to dislodge later on the living room carpet-or in your bed. What to do: Experiment with different litters (various brands claim to be "no track") or even yesterday's newspaper--messy to maintain, but no tracking. Place a rug or mat around the litter box, or for the most economical solution, use grip-liner, the stuff most often used to line shelves.

buy some mats and putthem in front of his litter box that will help some also you might want to invest in some kitty litter that clumps so when he does potty it stays in one place . also if he is not declawed then you might want to trim his nails with the clippers but be carefull not to cut them to short or to get in to the pink area on his nails because if you cut them to short you could cause him pain and he could bleed to death . hope this helps
