bah, these guys are filling your head with fluff...
1. Air Force.. They run the DoD Fire Academy, they also run the main line Certifcation Program thru their Civil Engineering Program. They have specialties such as airport that most others do not get. And they need not only firefighters at most airbases, but ready to deploy to make new airbases. They have the largest contingent of TRUE Firefighters in the Dept of Defense.
2. Army.. they are basicly going away, maybe a dozen bases still have army firefighters and they work strictly airfield.. most stuff is covered by DoD Civilians
3. National Guard, Most are state employees, while the bennies are nice, the pay is not as good as the DoD...
4. Navy - Everyone is a firefighter... Bull.. everyone is covering their own *** because their ship is burning.. everyone has a little training.. very very few people on board get training equal to the basic firefighting for civilian sector, these are usually called damage controlmen. not firefighters.
5. Coast Guard - 99% civilian except for damage controlman type work.
6. Marine, falls under navy, some marines, mainly civilian except airfield. (like army)

hey man, I just got out of the Navy after four years of service. the navy is probably the most relaxed. all branches pay the same depending on your rank. if you want a chill job thats not a lot of physical labor you want the Air Force. you are pretty much gonna have to travel with all branches even national guard at some times. In the Navy you will never be in any danger of being shot at or anything like that. If I could have done it over I would have joined the Air Force. I hope I was of some help!

only the AF trains it's firefighters similarly to the civilian sector. The Navy version..DC.. is much MORE than a firefighter at sea and they use civilians on shore, as do most of the other branches.

I'm in the National Guard (also a Recruiting Assistant), and honestly it's really hard to say. There isn't really a big demand for firefighters anywhere that I know of. If you want to find out on the National Guard website, it will give you the top 20 most need MOS's (military operative speciality) in your state. The MOS for a fire fighter is a 21m. Hope this helps.
