Call the local fire department and ask them for ideas, and tips.

Well, I thought by law anything over three storeys had to have a fire escape.

But anyway I would put wet towels under the door to the apartment and then move to the room with a window furthest from the fire and wait place a white sheet out the window (if the fire is far enough away that you can open the window for a second without fearing back drafts). Immediately close the window and place wet towels under the door to the room as well. I would then wait for the fire department until the smoke filled the room or it became too hot, then I would jump if I hadn't been rescued.

If the fire is right behind you and the only escape is the window, and you are about to die just jump with the kids. Hold them to your side though and try to turn and land on your back however, the likley hood of that actually happing is about slim to none, I mean landing on your back.

Most people would say turn on the bath water but if you can't get to the rest room, then you are in big trouble, you are pretty much left with doing the best you can, and you may die if you jump and my may not, but you will die if you don't jump.

Get in the bathtub with the two kids. Turn on the cold water and wait on the fire department. Better to be safe that way then to risk jumping, killing yourself or the kids, and finding out the fire department was 10 seconds away. Just my opinion.

chances are the fire department will be there within minutes of the call, so most people never have to jump. however, i have heard of cases where the parents have to drop their children from a window and have the people down below catch them.

there are ladder you can buy that hook to a window when needed and it rolls down close to the ground. Good luck If you mean the fire is happening now and you have time to be here asking us what to do then go online and purchase one of those roll away ladders and hopefully they can get it to you soon.

wow thats a hard question. Fourth floor.....hum.....i think the best thing to do is to jump with them. If you wait to lonng then everyone will burn. At least this way there is a chance. You will definatley break some bones but most likely survive

well if you can then get something like a blanket or sheets and soke them in some water and tie them together and tie it to something then repel down the side of the building with your children. but don't jump and hope to live because more than likely you will die.
