most meds take about 4 - 6 weeks to start working, im guessing your friend is bipolar II and they started him out on something light since he is probably in the early stages of diagnosis. if his mania keeps up with the jumbled talking at a high rate of speed then let him know after a month or so; this will let him know that he needs to tell his doc. that he is still having high manic points on the meds and something should be changed.

That's a weird question, but I guess you mean he talks too much? I have a friend with bipolar disorder and he talks too much; I think it's part of the manic phase. I don't think those medications always get rid of all the symptoms, they just make it easier for the person to live with. I take medicaion for depression but I still have suicidal thoughts. The difference is that I feel strong enough to resist the urge. I'm not saying your friend has to resist the urge to talk; it might just be part of his personality.

Hi, I am also Bipolar and you did not gave me a lot of info here but... if your friend is manic and just got on meds it will take time for the meds t o kick in ... has he been on meds for a while? if so, maybe he needs his meds adjusted ...this is with me assuming that "his need to talk " means that he is having rapid speech and talking about 10 different things at once......Hope this helps

Why would you think that stabilizers are going to keep him from talking? That's silly.
