No engine related saffety recalls on '05 or '06 Focus.
There was a Ford recall on '05 (rear door latches) Focus.
Other than that it's a great car & comes with an outstanding warranty (100,000 miles)
The reason why there are so many on used car lots is not that they are "trade ins" they are "program" or 'fleet' vehicles.
I know this because i work at an auto mall & see all the used cars & know where they come from.
I've had about 15 Focus demo's (I drive them untill somebody buys them) & I think they are fun & economical to drive.
I've also sold hundreds of them & no problems or unhappy customers.
So go for it, if it makes you happy! But do have a used one checked out......you don't want to buy a "Katrina" car. So do a carfax or autocheck on it & have it looked at by an independant source & then you should be fine!

I own a 2005 Focus LX 1.6 Duratec. No problems with engine - mind you its only 2 years old, so I wouldn't expect any problems yet. Only gripe I have is that it sometimes needs a bit of gas to get it started on a cold morning.

I have owned two Ford Focus Wagons with the Duratec engine. No problems with either. My dealer can't keep them on the lot.

I don't know the specifics about the Ford Focus or the years that you are mentioning, but I do know that when I have looked for cars at stores like Carmax online, they always seem to have an overabundance of the Ford Focus used. Which makes me question why so many people have sold them and there is such a high inventory? I assume people must be dissatisfied with them?
You should look into this car more...

the two have dealing with that throughout the time of basic terms VW vendors might desire to dream of. build high quality is super, reliability is powerful. human beings nonetheless have the thought that fords are rusty and breakdown. that would have been genuine interior the eighty's even nevertheless it not applys in the present day. you wont discover one expert evaluate that slates the concentration. even jeremy clarkson owned one as a daily driving force for years. for £3000 you will possibly desire to get a advantageous concentration with a 2.0 zetec, a advantageous mk5 fiesta zetec-s (my fave) or a in the previous mk6 fiesta. the diesel engines are grand, as are the zetecs/duratecs. if finding out to purchase a fez, stay away from a a million.3 8v. they're dated engines. as for fault, all vehicles have faults. one extra for the idiots above me: ford own 33% of mazda. the vehicles are outfitted with the comparable products.

My wife has a Focus and we have never had problems with it. There are a lot available for second-hand purchase, because they sell a ton of them. The guys on TopGear, a car show in the UK, love the Focus.

There are pros and cons to EVERY car. I myself do not care for the Focus, but a lot of my very satisfied customers love them. From working in a repair shop, I can tell you that they are not often seen in for repair. IMHO, they are great for in-town driving because they are easy to manuever, but not so good for highway because of the size.

ford worked out bugs on older models. go to a dealership with the VIN number and tell them you want an OASIS printout. that'll tell you if you car has been in for service.or has recalls open on it
