The reason is going back to the chromosome pairs, they contain gene pairs that determine characteristics of all beings. All properties determined on genes are symmetrical by default.

so they don't just fly in circles.
but seriously all living things have a high degree of symmetry of one kind or another because of the way cells divide and develop. But nothing is perfectly symmetrical, including butterflies.

This is for it's flight function, if one wing was larger or heavier, the butterfly would be flying in circles. Although i advise against this, catch and kut of a small portion of wing from either side.
