Is it the law that they have use it? With their arm stretched out behind them like a rodeo rider. And why so much? By a drizzle they mean at least a litre, by a splash they mean a gallon. All of the food must taste the same, like olive oil soup. Is it really that bad that they have to disguise it so blatantly. Oh, by the way, please don't bother with the obvious popeye jokes, thank you.

no it's not possible just as it's not possible for them to cook anything without putting garlic in it

(not including cakes and puddings but they would probably have a go!!)

The TV Chef's need olive oil for everything yes but they don't put a gallon of olive oil on the food
they use olive oil to cook the food

Yes,I can see if you're not too keen on olive oil you've a problem and I agree sometimes too much is used in the dish.
We have at home an olive oil spray which provides you with the option of lightly coating the pan and is,of course,far more economical.
The problem is that todays cuisine trends are so largely Mediterranean based and you have recipes from Italy,Greece ,Spain North Africa and the South of France-to name but a few-all of whom have traditionally used oil in their cooking.Why? because those countries are where olives grow particularly readily.
Here,further north we have traditionally used butter for recipes but due to 'health scares' olive oil is the preferred medium for many of our own regional dishes.

Olive oil does not contain all the harmful trans fats. [Oil that has been pumped up with hydrogen.] Olive oil helps keep harmful cholesterol down, and breaks down more slowly under high temperatures causing less smoke to interfere with the cameras. It is not a law just a less controversial ingredient.

What most people forget is, most chefs still run restaurants and are therefore used to cooking en masse (12 portions at a time). Shrinking that down to a cooking show isn't easy. You will also notice that they use kitchen towel to drain items on. This is quicker than leaving them to drain, and this also stems from the fast-paced nature of the hospitality business.

its probably due to the fact that olive oil is a healthier choice than most other cooking oils. lower in saturated fats and such. and in certain ethnic communities, olive oil was and maybe still is the only oil available. i personally wouldnt use olive oil to, say, make popcorn in. cant see that one tasting all that great. but if i was making an italian BMT sandwich, i will drizzle(less than a liter) olive oil on it. it DOES impart its own flavor to foods but all foods dont need that flavor.

no, this is not possible - all of the olive oil in the building is required for cooking shows - yes, it is the law. need many types of oil depending on unique heating and scent/taste characteristics & requirements of each food and dish type!

i do not imagine you may have any wish of "professional" food, because you may be constrained to spices and different equipment necessary, yet in case you've been to have the spices, noodles, etc, you're extremely no longer limiited to at least some thing, very few spices and also you may be in a position of do any type of mexican, chinese....see you later as you've it with fish, i'd anticipate you should seize dinner, so that you may want to superb song your filleting skills and performance sushi.....if no longer some thing else
