yes you can change it..........
just press and hold the shift key on the keyboard and then right click on the file now release the shift key and choose "open with" and follow the instructions to get it to open through another program

This link will tell you about wps files. Check the web page. You can download a Works reader which will at least allow you to read it. I do not know if you can do anything with the document as I do not have Works and do not intend to download this reader.

Adobe Reader opens PDF files. A wps file is MS Works. If you cannot open it, it is probably because you don't have Works.
