There is no proof that a haunted house exists. People's idea of hauntedness comes from the fear and psychological effects of what happened in the house. These feelings mess with people's mind to create illusions.

To answer the question, I would turn the house into a better living environment but I doubt I would have bought such a house in the first place. Any kind of worship or ceremonial act is just to make some people feel good. Until people know about what is fact and what is illusion, people will go on to believe in superstitions.

I wonder if there is a connection between the belief in holy spirits opening up the way for evil spirits too. Perhaps the easier to believe in what cannot be proven makes one vulnerable to other unproven existences? Why would a spirit afraid of a cross only live in houses with crosses? Why doesn't it go haunt a Jewish house where it would never see one? It seems strange that its Christians that are so open to ghosts that they have an serious study and prayer form in the church to examine and exorcise ghosts.

I don't believe in ghosts but if I discovered there had a been a tragedy or hideous murder in the house I bought I might find it would play on my mind a bit, I think I would have to sell and move...nothing to do with ghosts but just knowing what had actually happened would make me feel uncomfortable living there.

I would check out the opinions of each one. Just because one doesn't believe in God, doesn't between his or her opinion is no good. For some reason, people assume that an atheist has no morals. Hear out that person; check out the origin of that person not believing in God. You have no idea why that person feels the way his or she does. I grew up going to church, myself, but am not going to turn away from a persn just because he doesn't go for religion. Some of the people with perfect attendence in church don't have any morals.

Why would I want to eliminate it? Hauntings increase the market value of a house.

even as a medium and someone who believe in the paranormal
i always try to rule out the obvious before looking to the supernatural
most hauntings are nothing more than old houses with old fixtures , sometimes their is poltergeist activity and even that turns out to be nothing more than misdirected adolescent energy
but i do know many organisations who deal with these type of things , who also rule out probability before thinking there may be more to it
