no.. in theory it might work.. but .. aside from how all that construction could upset the natual wildlife up there.... eventually more and more ice would melt.. how many lakes are you planning to build??? and how on earth could there be such a project. even if the whole world came together to do it... that would cost billions of dolars in supplies and building camps for workers..and the workers.. and insurance for them in case they die of the cold. and if it did get built...it would only be temporary.. all that ice is gonna melt and the earth will change drastically ....thats just something that we've got to live with and try to slow as much as possible... but what yore suggesting just ...its too big of a project and its a little to late...... im sorry... cause i wanna help to...

The 'lake effect' depends on conditions which would not be in place in the high arctic.

But fear not... we have not yet reached the point of no return.

We can reverse what is now happening by stopping the continuing use of products and activities which have caused and are continuing to exacerbate the problem.

Huge efforts to protect wildlife may someday put penguins on the polar bears diet ... after some well meaning environmentalist relocates a breeding pair to the South Pole.

Looking for solution to the worse case scenario would involve mankind leaving this planet ... hundred(s) of years before we may otherwise have planned to.

Worse yet... some future generation of terrorists may well be eco-terrorists, bombing manufacturing plants, coal fired power plants, and other planet killing activities... all in an effort to stop the current lunacy.

As humans we will not take independent action to rectify the situation. Laws will have to be written requiring the population to change their habits, and these laws will have to be rigorously enforced.

We should adopt the Kyoto protocol, as we had promised to do.

OR... we could just get our spacesuits and spaceships ready and get used to Zero-G...

:) ;)

One major volcanic eruption could reverse the effects of GW temporarily. Like the confetti suggested above, the particulates from the eruption block the insolation. And if that stuff makes it into the stratosphere, it can remain there for many years.

The "lake effect" may not be very feasible, but I think it is a good idea to brainstorm ideas to save our planet. Arguing gets us nowhere, and time is short. Here's my idea:

Could we put up something in the atmosphere that blocks out some of the sun's rays at the poles? Like confetti?

Seeing as so many developers and world leaders are preparing to take advantage of the increased amount of usable land, I wouldn't doubt global warming being intentionally caused for financial and political gain.
