As an owner of a Pet Sitting business, I would suggest checking in your area for a "IN HOME" petsitter. I have had many cleints that were apprehensive about leaving their pets at home, and having a pet sitter come in. After the first time using my service, the clients never boarded their pets agian. If it is possible you may want to try this option. Pet sitters MUST be bonded, insured, and police checked or cleared. Also the clients must sign a contract acknowledging that they accept the pet sitter in their home. It is also good to know that your Pet Sitter belongs to a well know pet sitting orainazation. A good pet sitter should always meet the pets before they start the job, also they need to get to know the owners of the pets. Most pets are much more comfortable in there own home. Less trauma to the pet when boarding them, and much less anxiety on the pets part. I usually follow the exact routine the owner has with their pet, then that way everything goes well. We, as humans most definitley feel comfortable in our own home, so our pets feel the same too! Also there is less risk of the pet picking up something from the other dogs at the boarders. Also, most boarding places keep the pets in a cge, instead of letting them have the freedom they would in their own home. Pet Sitting is a wonderful option to look into if you are going away, and most likely once you and your pets find a petsitter that works well witin you and your pets routine, you will most likely keep the petsitter you hired to continue to care for your pets. Pet sitting, doggy day care, they are all the best for your pet. Just be very comfortable with whom you hire, but more importantly be sure your pets are comfortable too as animals are great judges of people! Also be sure and ask the Pet Sitter for references, a good petsitter will most likely have them on file when you first interview them. Be leary of a Petsitter that can't produce references, and also ones that are not associated with a national or international orgainazation for pet sitters.Something to think about.
