Prawns are high in cholesterol, as is anything which contains saturated (animal) fat. Keep red meat intake low, eat fowl and fish. Oat bran and porridge oats help absorb the excess cholesterol and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon twice a day will also help lower your levels.

Avoid:

* Saturated fats (ground beef, butter, cheeses, full fat milk products)
* Trans fats (Margarine and most packaged foods have this, so go for fresh or frozen fruits and veggies as half of your plate)
* Too many eggs (try egg beaters, it's as good as eggs)
* Microwave or store bought popcorn (contains palm oil which is the only plant derived saturated fat). Just air pop your own then add olive oil and salt in a big grocery bag and shake.
* Shrimp, Lobster.

Do have:
* Whole grain foods (whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta)
* Legumes (lentils, beans, barley, couscous, etc)
* Walunts and almonds
* Avocados
*Olive oil (cook with and use as salad dressing oil)
* Oat meal in different forms (avoid "instant" oats b/c it's stripped of it's hull so it's not whole grain) Try old fashioned oats or better yet, steele cut scottish oats (for oatmeal).

Picture your meal plate. Now picture half as fruits and veggies. The other half is divided into 2 parts (a quarter of the whole plate); one should get a lean protein and the other whole grain.
Picturing your plate like this, takes the guess work out of what to eat and how much.
Good luck. ;o)

You should avoid butter and red meat as much as possible. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, high fiber bread etc. Fish is great, chicken is good if it's skinless, seafood not so great but ok on occasion. A great website to check out is http://cholesterol.about.com/cs/controlwithdiet/a/goodfood.htm
