First off the best thing to do is to calm down. It wont do either of you any good if your scared or stressed. My nephew has had his tonsils and adnoids taken out he did great just sore afterwards. They had to put him under. It is always scary when your child goes under. I had to do it with my five yr old and i didnt like it i was scared the whole time and than when they came out and said shes wakin up i was sooooo relieved. no need to worry if anything will happen while he is under he will be fine he will do great. most of all dont stress. Your son will do great during and after surgery its better to get it fixed now than to wait later on in life and him havin speech problems. Good luck.

Its OKAY- Really mom! Its a great thing.
You need to take the "fear" away from the baby, he will sense it.

My brother had it done. Its fast and easy, the only scary thing is the anesthesia they need to use. They are professionals.
He will be sore for about a week and he may not even react to that.

I find that knowing all the facts really ease your mind- This process is fast and easy, Baby is well cared for at all times.

Here are the REAL details of the operation.
They will medicate him, strap him to a "belly board" so he can not move his arms and legs- (we use that on most babies to protect them), put oxygen on his nose, quickly do the surgery, and then unstrap him and send him to recovery {30-45 minutes} tops. He will naturally wake up from the medicine in sometimes less than an hour or as long as two. They use the least amount possible. The process really doesn't hurt much. Its a long smooth cut and it heals really quickly. You will be in recovery with him, so don't worry.

The medicine can make him nausua or dizzy for a little while, that is totally normal. That will pass in a few hours.

It IS very common for the baby to sleep longer- because they do that anyway. Its normal for the age. So don't freak out. That nurse is all over that baby. Trust me- we are more concerned for the little ones than the big ones, most of us are Mom's too.

Give him cold things -cold teething ring(smooth) he will put under or around his tongue. for a while and he may have gas from the medicine.

There you go! That's what will happen. Be Brave, he needs the surgery to be able to develop his speech and it will be a distant memory in a few months!

We recommended parents get a bear to hold while they wait and have to give them when they wake up. It pacifys Mom and makes baby happy in room.

Best wishes.

My nephew had this carried out at round 6 months. It develop into an person-friendly snip with the scissors, some spots of blood and about 10 minutes of crying. He develop into having topics even feeding from a bottle, might want to no longer breastfeed in any respect as he couldn't latch and there have been probabilities of speech impairment if it did not stretch on that is personal. he's now an really talkative 3 year previous with very sparkling speech. If this were my newborn, i does no longer hesitate to have this carried out. that is an person-friendly technique that no matter if it were to instruct out to be unnecessary (like if lets see into the destiny and comprehend that it wasn't going to reason speech topics) i'd nevertheless enable the physician do it. the probabilities of a few thing going incorrect are so small as to be negligible and the physician does no longer recommend it if he did not imagine the benefits were well worth it. sturdy luck!!

My daughter had the surgery when she was 6 months old. Trust me I know how scary it can be when they have to put your child to sleep. Also trust me when I say that it is a very simple procedure and at most will only be asleep for about 15 minutes. It will only take them a couple of minutes to cut the tongue. My daughter was awake and eating within just a couple of minutes and there seemed to be no pain at all afterwards.

By the way....the name is called a frenulectomy(sp?)
