I believe it has to start with our economy. In most cases both parents have to work to make ends meet, and that leaves our kids at daycare, babysitters, or schools. It's as if society is raising our children, at least they have more hours in the day with them than we do. If the economy and employment rate raises, maybe we could meet our requirements with only one parent working outside the home. I think both parents working should be a something someone wants, not needs. Also, there could more discounts in entertainment, hotels, travel, and restaurants offered to families.

I think the law they are trying to pass in Texas is just the right place to start. They are trying to make it so if a parent does not show up for a parent-teacher conference they are either fined up to $500 or serve time. It's sad that it has come to that but I think that is what has to be done nowadays. There are many people who are against it but parents really do need to find out about what their children do when they're not around, and the easiest way to look at it is: if you don't want to serve jail time or pay that big fine, get up off your lazy rear, take time off from work (the boss WILL understand), and go to your kid's school for a few minutes. Parents just don't care anymore and punishment may be the only way we can get to them. Parents are the reason why kids today are so out of control (shows like Supernanny and My Super Sweet 16 are perfect examples). They give up when kids misbehave and instead of punishing them, they let them have whatever it is they want. If parents would just spend that extra five minutes with their children everyday, this place would be so much better.

I don't know how but we really do need to make family more important in our lives. Too many Americans think life is about getting out on your own and making it but it is really about the time we spend here, the love we have for our family, and being appreciative of what we have.

Work less. Slow down. Love more.
Have more affordable, family oriented
choices in recreation, like drive-in theaters
and amusement parks. And if you don't
feel like you have enough time for anything...
then don't have babies.
