Many people get the bacteria Toxoplasma gondii from cat litter boxes. They can be picked up from cat urine and feces. Two years ago should have been long enough, you and your baby shouldn't experience any ill effects from it now, but GET RID OF YOUR CAT. If you are pregnant and you can't get rid of your cat, do NOT empty its litter box! Toxoplasmosis can be picked up very easily from it and babies whose mother's have it tend to have deformity problems. Hope this helps.

Toxoplasmosis is infection with Toxoplasma gondii. Symptoms range from none, to benign lymphadenopathy, a mononucleosis-like illness, or life-threatening CNS disease in immunocompromised people. Retinochoroiditis, seizures, and mental retardation occur in congenital infection. Diagnosis is by serologic tests, histology, or PCR. Treatment is most often with pyrimethamine plus sulfadiazine or clindamycin. Corticosteroids are administered concurrently for retinochoroiditis.
Congenital toxoplasmosis is caused by infection in a pregnant woman, with up to 50% of such infections transmitted to the fetus. Signs of congenital infection may be present at birth or develop over the first few months of life.
Infants may show signs of central nervous system disorders, enlargement of the liver and spleen, blindness, and mental retardation.
Treatment is very important for recently infected pregnant women, to prevent infection of the fetus. Since a baby's immune system does not develop fully for the first year of life, and the resilient cysts that form throughout the body are very difficult to eradicate with antiprotozoans, an infection can be very serious in the young.
