How do these academic disciplines differ and can they counsel the same types of patients? How does the curriculum differ in pursuit of the PhD?

Clinical psychologists have to spend some time in medical school, because they deal with actual physical causes and effects of mental illness. Also, clinical psychologists can prescribe medications. Counseling psychologists deal with cognitive and behavioral aspects of mental illness.

Clinical is typically throught he school of psychology and counseling psychology is through the school of education. Both basically do the same job however in the mental health profession.

Carmen, rather than posting this continuously because you aren't getting answer, perhaps you should actually review the curriciulum on the university websites that offer one, the other or both. And then maybe contact some of the faculty members with your questions.
