Some young cats are prone to have a "mad half hour", which usually consists of them running round the room, up the curtains, that kind of thing. This is due to lack of stimulation and inactivity caused by being locked up indoors for most of the day. Also, make sure that the cat has a constant supply if water and not too much milk or cream as this causes liver and kidney problems in later life. 99% of the time a cat will come back home if left to wander outside, but don't worry if some nights it stays out as it will probably be snuggled up with the old lady that lives next door!

All of these things could lead to unusual or abnormal behaviour in any animal.

Diet
Make sure that your kitty is getting different textures between the dry food and wet (tinned) food. And always freshen the water bowl.

Mental stimulation: the cats surroundings
A cat needs to stretch and this leads to nails being dug into furniture or wallpaper. A scratching post is a good idea but my kitty never fancied one. She tears the daylights out of an old laundry basket.

Exercise
All animals need to be exercised, especially a cat. If the cat is kept indoors a lot, it will need other ways to get its exercise. If you play with the cat and use toys on string or similar, your cat will get some of the exercise it needs. If you're very house proud maybe there's a den or somewhere that the cat can 'go a bit wild' in. And if you have the cat locked in one part of the house and it smells scents that are not local, i.e. from outside the room, it's natural instinct to explore will kick in and this could lead to some problems. Sometimes my cat will just squeal to get into the attic and nothing changes her mind...

Socialisation
Socialisation with humans but not necessarily with other cats. Unless you are getting two siblings at the same time. Cats are very territorial and don't like strangers coming onto their turf until they've been checked over.

Companionship
Your cat will thrive on companionship from you. Always make a big fuss when you see her or when you come home from work and tell her about your day and ask her about hers. You'll know if she loves to see you home because she'll meet you at the door when you open it with her tail up waving hello and she may even speak or purr.

Disease such as parasites/bacteria
Cat fleas (or worse, dog fleas) will cause untold problems. Imagine being stung by bees and not being able to stop them.
If the cat has fleas, see your Vet for a treatment that will kill the fleas and stop them breeding. If the cat is allowed out, it may be in contact with other infected cats. And if your cat has a temperature (her ears will feel warm to the touch along with her nose) then she may have an infection. The Vet can give you some anti-biotics if it isn't serious. Usually some small pills that you can give her yourself.

diet = lack of food would send anyone potty
surroundings being kept in contained area no stimulation would make listless and bored
Exercise =similar to above bored cat ,listless
Socialistion=lack of would make cat retired and weary of people
Companionship as above
Disease=can affect brain or make cat ill and bite itself or scratch and be crabby natured.

I got 2 kittens before christmas one was from a house with constant stroking and playing
2nd was from farm had been in barn hardly any contact
the 1st one is confident playful freindly
2nd one is shy ,retiring ,scared nervous and will let you stroke it but will run away on approach ,its taking some time but just needs to get used to humans and will play with other cat but is aware of us in room ,having to confine in area with no where to hide and its coming round slowly.

It's a mixture of diet and exercise. Exercise first then once it's had the correct diet food,it should curl up somewhere and have a nap.
