no. what a painkiller does is numb the muscle and this causes it to become hard. It makes the piercing very difficult to do right without causing scarring. This is partly due to the water between dermal layers in places like your ear lobes causing the layers of skin to be in different places at the same time.

The pain goes with the piercing, you can't handle it, don't get the piercing. Besides, most topical anesthetics don't work well and no reputable piercer will EVEr use of them. Also, most numbing creams relax tissues and muscles which can cause problems with the piercing itself.
In all honesty, its not THAT bad, its over and done with very quickly and the worst part is just having an overall sore nipple for a few days to a week or so.

Aww, you'll be fine. Lip piercing's aren't bad, and believe it or not, I have a baaaaad thing about needles...it's ironic that I am...for what I do. Keep in mind that the healing process sucks. Your lip will swell and become sore, and it will hurt to eat or drink. Make sure that you do not have to take the piercing out before the piercer tells you to(exapmle: you'd have to take it out after the weekend at work) Don't do that. If you cannot wear it during the healing process wait to get it, that can irritate and possible contribute to infection. Anyway, keep in mind that you must take perfect care of your piercings...to not do do is to risk infection or other injuries. Alright, make sure you go to a clean and professional piercing studio. Talk to them about the risk and the procedure, and anything that you would like to know.. They are usually a very understanding and respnsive people. You can NOT get an infection from the piercer if they practice proper ways to avoid cross contamination and blood borne pathogens...most should have proof of certification if you are paranoid, and some of them have portfolios so you can see their past piercings they have done. Infection usually occurs when bacteria gets into a fresh open wound (ie, a piercing.). The best way to avoid infection in a lip piercing, is to follow the proper after care the piercer tells you/gives you. Do NOT ignore them. If you wash them the way/the amount a day/how often/ how long they tell you to, you should be fine. Overcleaning a tattoo or piercing is bad for it. Do not ever touch your piercing while it is healing, it can contribute to infection, but, if you really must, for cleaning purposes or what not, always thouroughly wash your hands to prevent introducing bacteria into your piercing. Oral piercings can be affected by the food you eat, and the drinks you consume. You must use a mouthwash with NO Alcohol after everytime you eat or drink ANYTHING. Most piercer suggest sea salt soaks or H2Ocean and clean it with Provon or Satin soap, but I suggest that you simply follow their instructions and ask them what they suggest. Like I said, talk to your piercer about the risks and what you should do to avoid them. I have several piercings, and none of them have ever been infected. It's not very hard to take care of your piercings(hehe not be lazy)

I would suggest against it, since the piercer should be experienced, there should be a limited amount of pain. There should not be a numbing agent used, however, because if there is an extreme amount of pain associated with the piercing, this may signal a problem, and the piercer would need to be aware of that at the time of the piercing, not after any sore of numbing agent has worn off,. The find an experienced piercer in your area go to http://www.safepiercing.org
Most of us know how to utilize breathing techniques that help relax the client and reduce any sort of pain. I have actually done some piercings that should have caused alot of discomfort, and after I was done, my client actually had to ask if I was done, because they did not feel anything.

Plain and simple a piercer should not be using anything on your piercing.
It's not sanitary. Once the bottle is opened, it has to be thrown away and I don't know any piercers that can afford to be doing that.
Same goes for lube. Some piercers like to put that on the end of the needle for it to go in smoother, but a professional, good piercer can do that simply on their own.
Plus they should be quick enough to have you in and out of a chair within 5 minutes for a standard piercing. That doesn't seem like so much to handle right?
Piercings involve pain. Don't get it if you can't handle it. Or maybe just take some advil before you go.

It isn't necessary. I know my studio doesn't recommend it.
Nipple piercing really isn't that bad. If she's considering eventually doing both, i'd recommend doing them both at the same time. They can have two piercers do it at exactly the same moment, a tandem piercing. This is how i had it mine done, and it really wasn't bad at all. The pain lasts just a few seconds, and by the time you realize it hurts, the pain is over and you have a beautiful new piercing.

It's illegal to use these creams in the U.S. but it's not a good idea anyway. Your body's reaction to a piercing or tattoo should be natural so that you know if something is going wrong or not.
And besides, if someone can't handle momentary pain for the sake of their body art, they shouldn't get it done.

no you dont need any "numbing cream" for ANY piercing. the only time you may need a cream/ lub or pain onitment is for gaugeing something that is already pierced.
