From my prospective as a 'gurl' I would say make it as romantic, special and out of the ordinary as possible.
Thats not to say that a nice, quiet meal with candles in a restuarant or at home isn't special, but if you do that alot then its no big deal really.
Theres so much you can do these days as (for example) you could get a cheap flight over to Barcelona for the day (even the afternoon) and propose over a meal there or go on a weekend away (in or out of the country) etc etc.
Also, a BIGGGGGGG diamond makes any occassion special, diamonds are a girls bestfriend you know!!!!
p.s - DEFINATELY drop down on one knee - thats ROMANCE!!
