Don't worry. Tension is actually the worse part of it. You know, the fear of the unknown. They usually take you to a private pre-op area (curtained off) and have you change into a gown, go over your procedure, meet with the anesthesiologist, put on an ID wrist band etc. If you have time before your procedure usually a family member can come with you at this point. They will insert an IV needle (after the initial bug bite prick painless) that they will use to maintain fluids and give you meds then right before your surgery they usually give vercet (sp) a drug that makes you really happy, wheel you into the OR, talk to you while they transfer you to the table and get set up, and give you the medication to make you sleep through the IV (some still use the mask but if you are afraid of that just tell them), either way, you will barely remember. In post-op you will be monitored by nurses until you are awake and depending on your surgery they will give you something to drink or more medication if you are really nauseated while checking your "vitals", blood pressure, etc. Then you will go to a room until you are able to drink and pee where you will be discharged as soon as you are able to really wake up, or depending again on your surgery they will take you to a hospital room where you can basically sleep it off while being checked on by nurses and aides. Hundreds of surgeries are performed daily for necessary procedures. Yes, there are risks, but they are minimal and you really should focus on getting well. Good Luck and make sure to take the time you need to heal!

In the pre-op area you will have an I.V. inserted. After you reach the O.R. and are on the table, the anesthesiologist will insert medication to put you under. Trust me, it happens fast. The last time I had surgery, I watched the doctor put the medicine in the I.V.. Before you could snap your fingers, I was out. It's like being in a very, very deep sleep. When you come to in the recovery room, you won't remember a thing about the surgery. The operating room team will take very good care of you, so don't worry. I hope this helps. By the way, in pre-op you'll probably also be given a sedative to help calm you before surgery.

You have to be relaxed, by being nervous you only cause more problems for the surgeon. Try deep breathing exercises think about beautiful places you have been. If you don't calm down they might not go through with the surgery. Realize you have a competant doctor and nurses who will look after you. The more relaxed you are the better you will heal.

It's really like going to sleep. Being "put under" is not big deal. Once they administer the meds, they usually tell you to count backwards from 10 (they did for me both times) and you might make it to 8, haha. When you wake up, you'll be pretty sleepy and want to sleep for the day. I hope all goes well with your surgery.

it is an exceedingly undemanding surgical operation. The Vet probable does approximately 5 each week. do not concern. Farmers castrate calves and pigs approximately 30 an afternoon. all of them do superb. that's ok. Ask your vet what number she/he has carried out. Then ask what number she/he has lost. I guess the solutions are an awful lot and NONE. he would be ok. there is decrease possibility in surgical operation than his getting unfastened to combat or chase a female into the line.

Typically the doc will give you a pre-anastetic injection of Versed or such. It will kind of feel like your drunk. Then they take you to surgery and its lights out. You'll wake up after the operation and then begin to recover.

You're going to love it. THey give you an IV. Try not to worry. You'll wake up in the recovery room and it'll all be over and you'll feel great. Good luck.

its great, the best part of the whole mess. Might knock you out thru the iv, or ask you take some deep breaths thru the mask, your lights go out, you wake up in recovery.
