I've been there. I used to struggle to finish a mile in ten minutes. Well, now I feel great after 4 1/2 miles in 45 minutes, and last time I took a shot at the mile, I came in at 7:22. It will definitely get better if you keep up with it. I'd suggest running as much as you can OFF of the track. Our team does a lot of long runs out through pretty neighborhoods, and when you're out running through parks and on scenic roads with a big pack of peers, you feel so much more ALIVE and motivated than running in circles over and over and over. In general, control your breathing (don't gasp, even when you're tired) and try to keep your feet light. They should just barely scuff the ground when you move.

It gets better with practice. Work on your form to achieve a stride which is smooth and even, and one which economizes your motion. Relax your shoulders, pull your elbows in a,bit so they are not flying around, and curl your fingers so that they make an "o" with your thumb. Move your arms and hands as if you were sliding them up and down a pole. Find a pace that you can maintain for a mile and stick to that pace. As your aerobic fitness increases you should be able to speed up. Be sure to do stretches before each run and include a cooling down stretch and/or walk afterwards.
Keep at it. You will find your stride in time, and you will feel great.

you need a trainer to show you where you are going wrong.
stretching before and after an even? do you smoke? have you had a good physical where you get a complete work up? might be a physical condition. how is your food intake..???are you getting enough protein, veggies, water? how is your BM?
lots to think about it..
I never like running but I started out on a tread mill and this helped me with my breathin...you have to know how to breath or you will be out of breath afterwards..maybe you are just suffering from the lame duck synderome and your subconsious is telling you to not exercise...dumber things have happened to people. Adios and good luck..you are on the right track..keep it up

It gets much better. I ran tracj and field for the last 10+ years. I couldn't run a maile to save my life but now its a piece of cake. Try breathing in your nose and out your mouth. It will creatye a constance cycle for the air when your breathing.
You just have to build up your endurance to running for that long and try adn concentrtae on your breathing. Don't take choppy breathes, try long inhales in adn nice exhales, it will excercise your lungs and help with your breathing while you run.

it gets better. start with half mile. run at moderate pace and remember to breath easily. if u start gasping then slow down breathing and regulate. once u can do this without having to concentrate on breathing then up to 3/4 mile or whole mile. it will come easier

I don't know. I walk with a cane because of an injured knee. I guess it will get better as you get more into shape unless you have a breathing problem.
