I often wonder just how many people that said get your dog neuter or spayed have their own dog fixed or even have a dog for that matter. AKC won't recongize a dog until he is 8 months old. I would wait a year before you have him stud out. I have males and they never ruin my carpet. Good luck with you and your dog.

Dogs can be mature enough to breed @ 11mos, however if you do it properly he should be 2yrs so that all the genetic testing can be done. B*tches should be 2yrs @ breeding for the same reasons plus being internally mature. If everyone took the "advice" offered on this site to neuter every M&F there soon wouldn't any canines to own & love! By the way - 'dogs' are males & bi*ches are females, not 'dogs'!!!

You couldn't have done much research if the VERY basics aren't understood. Just go get your dog neutered. Even the least experienced owners Know what age a dog SHOULD be. Doesn't mean they wait that long but, at least they should know that. You have no business breeding dogs is you come on here for advice. The world doesn't need more CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neutering a male dog eliminates the chances of testicular cancers, and decreases the chances of penile and prostate cancers by 98%. Intact male dogs are more prone to being hit y a car because they wander, smelling that female in heat. They are at risk for injury from other dogs (fighting) and spreading disease. Neutered males are less likely to lift their leg and mark your couch, chair or bed. They are less likely to hump your leg (or a visitors!). Neutered males are less aggressive.
A male needs to be checked for hip dysplasia, eye diseases, deafness, or any other breed-related genetic abnormality. He must have the typical breed temperament in order to be a good candidate for breeding. He needs a blood and DNA tests for various diseases as appropriate for the breed. Obedience classes to make sure he is well-socialized and is trainable.
So, you will need:
* OFA rating
* Certified free of PRA
* CERF eye rating
* Pedigree
* PFK tested
* AKC
* Brucellosis tested
* Do you show your dog or do other work w/him?
* UTD on vax
If you still decide you want to stud your dog, read breed specific books on breeding. Don't be a BYB and contribute to the millions of dogs being euthanized each year from unwanted litters.
Love your dog and have hi neutered for a healthier, longer life.

Dogs should be at least 2 years old before mating. Many genetic test results may not be dependable when performed on dogs before they reach full maturity. Some tests still need to be performed every few years since some deficiencies do not show until later in life.

first of all, if he isnt a show dog he should be neutered, second of all, he wont ruin your cartper for two reasons, dogs need to be achieving orgasm in order to really ejaculate and they lick it up when they are masturbating instead of having intercourse
third, he was ready to mate physically at around 6months old,
fourth, why does everyone belive because they have an unnuetered dog it makes them compitant to breed dogs
and i have an un nuetered dog, and he has never humped a person, so you need to set some boundries with him

According to AKC a dog must be at least 8 months old before they will recognize a breeding by him (this is for biological reasons, not ethical reasons). For ethical reasons a dog should not be mated until all of it's test results are in. Since OFA will not certify hips until 24 months, 2 years has become the norm.
We never breed one of our dogs until they have completed their Championship.

You need to have him neutered. He is expressing dominance toward your nephew.
Neuter the dog & start taking him to training classes ASAP.
Also, scold him & tell him NO when he tries to mount anything or anyone.
You need to be the "boss" of the dogs - not the other way around!
