It really depends on where you are. Some countries go up to 5 years. Others may set the punishment at 1 year and/or $1000 for animal cruelty. I believe however that it isn't long enough. It is said the mark of a truly gracious society is how we treat our animals. Since we're on this subject, is it okay to ill-treat the animals we consider livestock? We seem to have this divide where livestock go through all sorts of abuse but nobody seems to care. With livestock, we are ALL responsible..

When it comes to animal abuse I feel like they should get like the Bible says "An eye for an eye". It has been documented that almost all serial killers start with killing defenseless animals.
People that hurt animals have no respect for life other than their own. They will mistreat people and abuse them and should pay dearly for their crimes.
The only place they belong is behind bars.

Definitely not long enough! I think it's really sad that people disregard animals as they do. They feel that animals don't have a soul...but they do!! If any living thing shows a personality, then it has a soul....and animals certainly fall into that category. Thank God that there are loving people who really do care about the welfare of animals.

The laws concerning animal cruelty are local ones and fines/sentencing are determined by a judge when the evidence is sufficient to bring the perpetrator to court.
