A couple of years ago, there is a case where the abuser was sentenced to a few mths to 1 year jail. Then the man came out and killed more stray cats/kittens (by beheading, beating and banging against the wall), he got another year of jail with some counselling and medication from the mental hospital.
In contrast to the other case where the man tapped illegally into someone's wireless internet connection, the man got 2 years jail.
It's a harsh and unfair world.

I am afraid to ask why you are asking this.
Anyone who is found guilty of being cruel to animals can, AND DO, go to jail. Animal cruelty is illegal. Alot of it depends on the circumstances.
In my 5 years at the animal hospital I currently work at, I have seen 2 separate arrests for animal cruelty. One was for fighting pit bulls, the other was for laying out antifreeze in the neighborhood for the purpose of killing cats. And yes...both of these people went to jail.

Each state has their own laws governing animal cruelty. Punishment depends on the severity of the crime and the judge.

they are arrested for cruelity for animals, get slapped with a fine and usually jail time, and if they are pet owners (especially of the one that was killed) they are banned from owning animals ever again.

Killing a dog or cat is not legally termed murder. There is no sentence for it.

Umm . . . no. They could get an animal abuse charge, but even that's not a guarantee.
