Student loans are not income. You have to pay them back with interest. That's why the government gives you a tax break on the interest you pay on your student loans.

As an American you should never get something from federal govornment for school and give it to a church institute. If any thing you should give it back so you do not have to pay it back.
Besides who ever heard of taking out a loan to pay somebodies tithes.
Thithing in todays terms is wrong. Tithing is something that was done for the upkeep of the temple and once it was given became as holy as the Ark of the Covenant.
The Temple has been destroyed, tithing is no more until the new temple is built. If a church attempts to continue tithing then they are in err.

If your student loans is a loan from a government system, then you don't have to pay tithes on a loan, That is the same as me going to my bank & borrow $1000, I don't pay tithes on that, I am not that familar with a student loan, But now about your savings, If you had worked for that money then yes you should pay tithes, & also on any interest it draws. And your tithes should go to your storehouse(Church) that you fellowship with, I know of many people from other countries, that do not have a home church to go to, so they consider our church here in the USA as their home church since we are live on the internet, they listern in. We have only about 2 or 3 times in the last 32 yrs preached on tithes, & then someone wanted a sermon on it.

My understanding is that the tithe ( 10% ) is to be given to the congregation you attend regularly. It is up to them to use it according to God's purpose. The tithe isn't given because God needs the money. It is given as a response to what God has already given you - life, salvation etc.
If your desire is to give directly to ppl who need it, that should be over and above your tithe.
Your student loan however is not technically income. It is to be used for your education. Once you have secured a paying job, that is when you start tithing. But i admire your willingness to give your tithe.

According to the Old Covenant, you should give of your produce and livestock. According to the New Covenant, you should give freely, nor of compulsion, but give of a cheerful heart.

So I'm not sure what covenant you're going by, but i hope that helps. Those who believe that tithing has changed to accommodate the financial changes of our culture will tell you that you should tithe of your loan. So, i guess if you owe the school $1,000 make sure you get more in debt and get a $1,100 loan to pay for the tithe of what you owe the school.

A loan is not increase (income). There are three places the Almighty has authorized a person to pay tithe to. 1) pilgrimages to where His name is established 2) Levites 3) widows and orphans. Study Scripture, so you can worship YHVH and be blessed by Him.

As a born again Christian and a Sunday school teacher I would say no to student loans because you will be paying that back. You should tithe on any income and it should be based on the first fruits(gross income). You should want your church to distribute the money how they see fit. They budget money to pay the pastor, pay bills, feed the poor, help missionary's, and so on.We cant play god our selves. Always remember, you cant out give God.

Tithes were for the Jewish people. They were an Old Testament Law NOT a New Testament writing. The New Testament is what we are supposed to be living our lives from and worshipping by. The Old Law is "for our learning" according to the Apostle Paul. We are told to "give as we have been prospered". The church is to use those funds to do certain things such as to "spread GOD's Word". There are commands telling how the money is to be spent and there are examples that we follow from Paul's writings also. He did a lot to help us know what GOD wanted us to do. Have a great day.
Study these scriptures and see what you think. To become a Christian:
HEAR - Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
BELIEVE - To the Prison guard in Acts 16:31 Paul and Silas said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
REPENT - Acts 17:30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.
CONFESS CHRIST - Matthew 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
BE BAPTIZED - Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL - Revelation 2:10b Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Send me a note if you have questions. I am anxious to hear from you. Have a Great day.

You should pay thithes from your income or pocket money, not money meant for your education. If you belong to a church, then i'll advise that you pay your tithe to the Church. The bible says "Bring all the tithe into MY (God's) storehouse" ..He has commanded us to bring our tithes into His house, as it is meant for renumeration for the Pastors, ministers and the needy. The Levites (Pastors/Priests) are the ones that God has given the rights to distribute the tithe to the poor and the for the smooth running of the Church of God. If you want to help the needy, then I suggest you guive them offerings from other money you have, not your tithe..pay your tithe to the Lord (through your church)
By the way, I'm glad that you take the concept of tithe seriously. IT really works for me, and the increase that God promises is true!

God does not need your loan money. However, if you are a believer you should learn to know that tithing is not waste, but it is a divine priviledge for your service in His eternal Cause in the salvation of the human race.
