See from your profile you've not been with us too long. Violations are a way of life and you'll get them when they're least expected, it's a pity us bad 'uns can't have our own chart for the most number of violations, I've had bl**dy seven this week

Some users believe there should be absolutely no swearing, which goes by the Yahoo guidelines. But then there is also the problem of free speech involved. As long as it is not excessive swearing, I think it is ok. After all, we do hear these words everywhere we go (TV etc.)
Also it depends of the moderator that reviews the abuse report. Some of them agree there should be no swearing or some of them just ignore the swearing reports, as they are minor. I reported an answer that just contained swearing and insulting the person who asked the question, but it wasn't removed.
You were just very unlucky. Your joke was read by a person who doesn't like swearing and reported you; and the report was reviewed by a very strict moderator.
