My son is 3 1/2 yrs old and will peepee in the potty...he is no problems with that. However, I can't get him to poop in the potty. I have tried everything...bribery, telling him that his favorite characters poop in the potty, putting him on the toilet until he poops, reading him books that involve pooping on the potty and let him run around with no underwear on. Nothing is working!!! ( he has watched me and his dad go to the bathroom ) He wears regular underwear and poops in them! Anyone have any suggestions?

Boys are harder than girls. What I did learn with my two, the first one I kinda "forced" into going poop on the toilet before she was ready. She in turn started putting a pull up on and going in a corner to do her thing. When we hid the pullups, she would hold it for up to 2 weeks at a time. We had several visits to a children's hospital gastroenterologist for that issue and he told me it all stemmed back to the above, of me forcing her to use the toilet before she was truly ready. Whereas, I let my 2nd one go at her own pace, just encouraged alot, and she didn fine, no issues with this one :)
I would say to keep encouraging him, he will get there, but no force him to in the same sense. Good luck, I know it can be difficult.

i went through this with my girl and it is very discuraging but hang in there...he just may not be ready for this step yet...somethings you could try is keep an eye on him and see if he goes at certain times of the day, and if so really watch him during those times and if he starts to go hide or looks like he is going to go then cheerfully take him to the bathroom and see if he will go...if he fights you dont force, it will only make him more scared...another idea maybe is if you dont already have a child toilet (one that would be all his) try getting one and seeing if he will go on that...or if he already has one and is using it see if he wants to sit on the big potty to go...well i hope this helps, just remember he will go when he is ready you just need patience!

Have you tried the rewards system? I trained all of my kids this way!!! Keep a small canister full of his favorite candy or fruit snacks, and tell him that every time he poops on the potty he can get himself a whole handful(his handful!) It worked for me, it might just work for you!!! Even try stickers!!
