I guess you're asking about Islam, because after studying religions for many years that's the only one I know of that really DOES uphold violence and intolerance as part of its creed, despite what so-called 'moderate' Muslims claim to the contrary.
The reasons being that Islam was spread by the sword and by invasion and conquest from the very beginning, and this creed is still upheld today by genuine Muslims. In addition Muslims cannot even tolerate fellow Muslims from sects other than their own; which is why they kill each other in places such as Iraq.
All people need to do is read the Koran and look at the Sharia and some other texts read by Muslims as part of their religion, and then people would see for themselves the real truth about Islam - it is NOT a religion of peace!

Don't know....
It's what others see the religion as, due to a minority of the people who are part of that religion. They do something bad, which labels the whole religion it's self violent and intolerent. It's what people see the religion as bad, without the truth. It happens a lot. The main religion is Islaam. It's a religion of peace and not violence and intolerance.

many religions dont actually teach or preach hate its the fanatical people that are teaching that teach the hate, the greater majority of religious believers the so called true believers dont want their religions ruined by hatred and violence, however small and narrow minded influential people persuade followers that hatred and violence is the only real way to get the message across.
If in all honesty there is a god or gods im quite sure they would of done something by now to show us that they disapprove of their names being used in such ways however the lack of this draws me to the conclusion that there really isnt any and from what ive seen of the world whilst serving in the armed forces i truly believe there is no god, sorry if that offends people but would a god watch blissfully as a bus full of children is blown to pieces? i can only ask you to answer that in your head and your heart.

This is too big a Q to do justice to here. I'm just going to briefly dwell on the matter of intolerance from the Christian religion's scriptures.
After saying the wrath of God is coming against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, the apostle Paul added, "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realising that God's kindness leads you towards repentance?"
The biblical principle "Those who live by the sword will die by the sword" should make any religious person hold back from violence, as should the promise "Whatever a man is sowing, that he will also reap."
Finally, we need to stick to God's view of what is to be tolerated and not tolerated because our own opinions vary wildly and are usually selfishly motivated. Nor do we have the Big Picture, as God has.

I don't know of a religion that teaches violence, but they all preach intolerance, which in due course can run to violence.
Religious intolerance can take many forms: Simple religious differences, sexual orientation, choice of clothing, etc.
I find it strange though, how the judeo-christian followers in the USA have felt it necessary to 'outlawed' homosexuality - I thought judgement was the lord's?

They don't, it's the worshippers that decide they want to USE violence and intolerance against worshippers of other faiths because they want the other religions to worship their "one true god" and denounce their "heathen gods". It's all rather b**locks really, it's been going on since the beginning of time and wars will always be around so long as there are religions to cause them.

Religion, as a rule, doesn't. It's those that interpret it that teach violence and intolerance. Also consider that all holy texts were written by men and I've read people who reckon they're just corrupting God's word, whether intentionally or not.

Violence and intolerance does unfortunately work to some degree if people want to impose their idea, what they think is right, on others.
E.g. If you tried to preach the christian message in a Saudi or Iranian market place you'd be arrested, in Saudi you would likely get tortured in gaol, and would likely be executed, if Western journalists weren't aware of what was going on. That means people get scared and can't bring in what the authorities there believe is a distorted message. Violence works unfortunately, but there is a price to pay as the general air of repressiveness and stamping out what is not approved of can't be healthy.

Because some intolerance is morally right. We should not tolerant rapist and child molesters. We should not tolerate suicide bombers and those who brainwashing them into doing it. We should not tolerate abusers and users, who harm people and destroy lives. We should not tolerate Spammers - the ultimate sin!!
As part of any religion, there are moral laws. While they may vary some - such as should a man have one wife, or four wives, they all agree that no man should have the right to just take, rape or abuse any woman any where anytime. It is the role of religion to act as the moral compass in the world. Christians, for example, are told by Jesus to be "light" and "salt" in their world, shining out for what is good, and cleanse what is evil.
Any religion that is NOT intolerant of evil, will end like the Catholic church, toleranting child molesters even within its own leadership.
So by definition, religion must be intolerant of evil.

For some reason so-called monotheistic religions, jewish, christian and Muslim all seem to do this. The all talk the talk but fail miserably at walking the walk.
If any of them would start to practice what they preach the world would be a lot better place.
Love and blessings Don
