but the otehr day he said " ill probably end up going prom with you"

Just wait until he actually asks you to prom. He does not sound nice. He is saying that, if he can't find anybody better, he will go with you. He sounds like a... not nice person. You can't help who you like, but I do not aprove!

just go ahead if he asks u for prom nite. maybe u can hint to him asking him if he found a date for his prom.
since u are good mates, maybe he just hasnt came to realising that fact. once he does, he prob might fall for u.
