Gordon has a chance at being the "new king" and perhaps the best ever, we will have to see how long he stays at it and how many championships he ends up with. I'm not even much of a Gordon fan but those are the facts. Right now I would have to say Jimmie Johnson, not just because he won the cup this last year but because of his average finish each year and his streak of consecutive weeks/years in the top 10 overall. It does help him that he has Chad Knaus as a crew chief and Rick Hendrick as an owner but he knows what to do with what he's given. We will see when it's all said and done but Jimmie has been right there in the thick of things every year he's been cup racing. Jimmie has beaten both of them in the points every year except 2002, his rookie season, when Gordon finished 7 points ahead of him. Don't forget that Johnson was the only one of the 3 to even make the chase in 2005. If you ask who is better you can only look at how they compare since they have all been racing each other (2002 to present).

This is for saq428 that used the wins heads up statistics to argue that Gordon is better than Jr. I was just wondering why you didn't show heads up Gordon vs. Johnson?
2002 wins Gordon-3 Johnson-3
2003 wins Gordon-3 Johnson-3
2004 wins Gordon-5 Johnson-8
2005 wins Gordon-4 Johnson-4
2006 wins Gordon-2 Johnson-5
Total wins '02-'06, Gordon-17 and Johnson-23
Hmmmm. Johnson looks pretty decent to me.

Jimmy Johnson is the champion, so you have to give him respect for that. Jr has had his moments and has a ton of potential. Overall though I would have to say that Jeff Gordon is the better of the three. Just look at their career stats. Jeff is in an elite class. I don't thing either Jimmy or Jr are there yet, and Jeff is not finished. And I suspect he will add several more victories and a few more championships before he is done.

I never pull for him, but the best of the 3 as a driver is Jeff Gordon. In a few years he will be the number 3 man in all time wins behind Richard Petty and David Pearson. Dale, Jr. and Jimmie Johnson are very good drivers but they are young and just don't have the experience Gordon has. If Gordon has the equipment, he will run at the front.

I think Dale Jr has yet to prove himself, there is A TON of potential ( you dont win 2 busch championships and not be good) that he hasnt tapped into yet. Jimmie is good but hes in a good car with a great crew chief and everything is clicking so far. Now with Gordon, I am the farthest thing from a Gordon fan you can get, but you can not say Jeff isnt a good driver. You dont accomplish what he has in such a short amount of time if you dont have it.

I would have to say Jeff Gordon..due to time behind the wheel. Dale Jr. dont have what daddy gave him other than his name and Jimmie Johnson is still learning.

All three are good, But Jeff is the only great one so far.

Jeff - 4 championships, 473 races, 60 Poles, 73 wins,

Avg finish 12.9

Jimmie - 1 Championships, 183 races, 13 Poles, 23 wins,

Avg finish 12.9

Dale - 0 Championships, 255 races, 6 Poles, 17 wins,

Avg finish 14.8

Now Jeff has years over them, so they could catch up and be better than him by the end of their careers.

Currently I think Jimmie is the hot driver. Jeff and Dale are letting their personal life affect their racing.

Everyone's opinion is going to differ the Jr. fans will say him the Gordon fans will agree with him and the Johnson fans with him, they have all had their great moments and it just depends on who you ask. If you look at the stats then the answer will obviously be Jeff Gordon with 75 wins, 4 championships, 6th on the most laps led, and other stuff like that, but not everyone likes him because of numerous made up reasons. It jsut depends but no one no matter how much they hate Gordon cannot disrespect him as he is a grear driver and cannot deny he has one of the best records in NASCAR history. Along with that I am a Gordon fan. Go #24!!!! Go Hendrick!!!!

jEFF GORDON is one of the very best drivers in nascar if you doubt this just remember what Dale Earnhardt Sr. had to say about him. most armchair racers hate him because he can pretty much drive the wheels off any condition car they may put him in not win all the time but sure as heck be in the top 10.
Jimmy Johnson is definitly another in that category Junior is another that I put right there with the best of the best NOT YET AS GOOD AS HIS DAD BUT HE'S BANGIN AT THE DOOR

Jeff Gordon is the best driver he has the wins and the championships to prove it Johnson is good but we will have to see if he keeps it up dale Jr. doesn't have the right team behind him he needs a Richard Childress or a Hendrix behind him terresa dont help the team to much

If u go by wins and championships u have to go with Jeff Gordon
If u go by recent years, JImmie Johnson
If u go by future, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Personally, even though i don't like him, I would say Gordon.
