Usually once they start eating solid foods, the momma will stop cleaning up after them. You will need to show them the litter box and be sure they see her using the box, so they understand what they are supposed to do. Pick each one up after they have eaten, and place them in the box a few times. It may help to have a small box especially for the kittens, that doesn't have walls as tall as a normal box, so they can climb in easily.

Good luck!

Most cats that I have helped raise just started using it on their own. They weren't taught at all. They were around the age of leaving home when they picked it up. In the outdoors, they just start going in the dirt. Our outdoor kittens aren't usually litter trained when we give them away. They just follow the natural process and then pick it up quite quickly when they get their new home. If you would like to help with the process, watch for them to go to the bathroom, then take it and the kitten to the litter box. Put the stuff in the litter box and put the kitten in their, too. You will have to hold them. Use your hand to help the kitten scrape the litter with the front paw as they would do if they were covering their stuff on their own. Try to do this faithfully. Everytime you catch them (or even if you find it a little after the fact), go through this process. This is how I trained my kitten, who was an outdoor kitten. He was mostly tained naturally, but I had to help him out a little bit. You might want to wait another week before you start. This way you aren't pushing it too young. Good luck with your kittens! They will get it!

Your cat wont teach them to use the litter tray, you need to. Whenever the kittens goes to the toilet, pick them up and rub there nose in it to tell them that it was wrong. then place the kitten in the litter tray. If you see them going on the floor, pick them up straight away and put them in the tray. Also say NO in a strong voice to warn them, they will soon pick it up. It worked for my kittens so it should for yours!!

I think you need to set the kittens down in the litter box and they will get the idea. (I have always heard that works)

The mama won't ever teach them to use the litterbox that is up to the cats owner to do the training. You have to be consisitent.
