She has now been released from hospital with her temperature higher than what it was when she was admitted, she was actually sick in front of the doctor yet he has still sent her home and told my sister she has to get her temperature down. Hi, the hospital should never have released her with her temp still high & being sick, If it keeps up go to A&E explain what has happened or call your own GP now & tell them what the hospital have done

I'm sorry your niece has been unwell. I would be concerned as you are.

I would advise you to focus first on getting her temperature down using calpol for children or similar. Also, sponge her down with tepid water to help keep her cool and make sure she drinks plenty of fluids.

I would monitor her very closely and if the temperature doesn't begin to come down after doing all the above, or you are still concerned in any way I would take her back to see the doctor or give the emergency department a phone call. You don't say how old your niece is.

Give the sponging and medicine time to work and take her temperature hourly.

Best wishes.

To help get down her temp she needs to be sponged with tepid water. Allow the water to dry in the air, which should not be too warm, but not cold.
If her symptoms remain the same, or get worse, then call the doc and ask for a home visit.
Vomitting what? Just bile? Or a three course meal? Keep giving her SIPS of water - - do not add juice or anything else, just water. Do not give water from the fridge or straight from the tap, but room temperature.
I would say she has a mild fever, never heard of a wild one. Try her with some nurofen for children. That should do the trick.
Good luck with it.

Take her back to hospital and demand a blood test for Meningitis/Septicaemia. This happened to my friend and though the child was younger, she lost her daughter to meningitis. If needs be take her to another doctor or hospital. Even if its not meningitis, her temperature must be brought down ASAP as that can cause serious damage. I hope shes ok.

TAKE HER STRAIGHT BACK!!!!!! Go directly to the A and E deparment and get her seen ASAP. Children can deteriorate rapidly and her symptoms sound suspect. She may have febrile convulsions if her temperature remains high which is bad enough but if it is menegitis it's GOT to be treated fast. Look for any signs of a rash-if you find any kind of rash, run a glass over the top. If it doesn't disappear, please seek urgent medical assistance. I truly hope it isn't anything serious but with children it is always better to be safe than sorry. A and E will not think you're wasting their time, they would rather people bring their children in and get them seen. I,m a staff nurse in itu so i know how serious it can be

Are you sure the doctor never said a 'Mild fever'never heard of WIld fever and I doubt the doctor would have sent her home if she were running a very high fever.

Best advice give childrens Calpol to bed with hot water bottle to break the fever......plenty of drinks and sleep.

Try not to worry too much I'm sure she will be heaps better tomorrow. If not call out the doctor. Okay!

All the smptoms indicate meningitis espically photophobia (light sensitivity) take her to a hospital ASAP, bacterial meningitis is a medical emergency and has a high mortality rate if untreated all suspected cases however mild need emergency medical attention. Ask to see a consultant i have heard of junoir doctors missing meningitis. Also try to find out if she has a stiff neck another sign of meningitis.

Take her back and demand a second opinion. There is not such thing as wild fever, he probably said mild fever. If its over 101oF then I'd be worried. But when its a small child's life its best not to take risks. Get her back to the hospital.

I would take your neice back right away, do you know how many children have died because they had meningitis and the doctors didnt diagnose it??
I read about it all the time in magazines it is so tragic, they could at least do tests, meningitis it not something to be taken lightly its a killer.
Good luck I hope she gets well x
