Act busy at your desk, when interrupted, tell them: Please give me a few moments to finish this and I'll get back to you.

take 5 minutes, then go see them..

Do this every time..always be busy..

I have been in this situation before. Office bullying, backstabbing, runaway gossip, and general bitchiness can be extremely draining over time. It makes going to work in the morning very depressing. Complaining to a superviser almost never works in these situations because you will most likely be told that a) you are not being a "team player", b) it's all in your head and stop being so paranoid, or c) just get over it.

I would usually just ignore people. BUT, just because I'm quiet doesn't mean that I'm timid, and I am one of the more evil people walking the earth (when provoked). When dealing with office idiots, I am coldly polite and distant, if I have to deal with them at all; otherwise I just ignore them and do my own thing. If someone decides to be stupid to my face, then I can no longer be held responsible for whatever words come out of my mouth. Did you ever see Pulp Fiction? Just remember Jules' speech at the end of the movie about "the path of the righteous man" and "trying to be the shepherd". I actually have it posted above my desk.

Tough one, because as you seem to be saying, by saying nothing, it is going along with it in a passive way.
Reporting it is a big, courageous step. If you are thinking of it, follow the advice given by one of the others by keeping records.
If you feel reporting it is likely to bring more of it your way, then some
avoidance tactics (like always being too busy as s.o else suggested) is a good one.
If one of these bitchy types comes up with gossip or remarks about a colleague, how would you feel about saying (with your most innocent smile): 'That's very interesting what you just told me about Jane. How about we go over and tell her what is going round the office about her? That way we can find out if it is true or not, because if it isn't, then its slander and somebody could be taken to court.'

The best thing to do would be to report it to your office manager. Every one knows this is easier to say then do!
But @ the end of day your the only person who can change things which are effecting your day to day life, So i would suggest that you report the bullys, Maybe there Jealous of some thing you have and they haven't? I dont know! But there not worth being sad over!Hope this helps you!!

Look at them as though you think they are the lowest form of eco-plasm, look sad, say you do not agree, you do not believe in what they are saying or doing, & if it carries on, get's personal, intensifies, write (sign & date) a memo to your boss, if that doesn't work, speak to their boss, tell a union rep, & hide behind a big sign on your desk, that jokingly warns their little brains they really should have something better to do - if you can't find one to buy, make one that expresses your dissatisfaction in a jokey kind of way.
& don't give them any information about your life
so they can't use that against you.
Be official, don't be unfriendly, just don't join them.
They should get the mesage.
If they don't & none of this works, look for another job & let it be known that is why you are (sadly) being forced to leave.

Talk to your supervisor. If this doesn't resolve the issue (or if they are part of the problem) go to your Human Resources department. Office bullying creates a "hostile work environment" and it is illegal.

Anytime one of the bitchy people comes to your office, start talking about your cats like they're human.

The cats, I mean - not the bitchy people.

Contact your human resources department and lodge a complaint. Your supervisor/manager will then have to deal with the situation.

I woudn't care what people think, just do it, it's your career not theirs.

:D

Keep notes and any evidence (written memo's, e-mails, whatever)
Take it to your manager/human resources. Tell them it is making you ill.
The fact is, If they are so thick that they try to gloss over it - and if it carries on - it could cost the firm money, and anyone who doesn't take it seriously could be jeopardising their own career.
