control then audio open then click audio see if the driver shows up if not then you will have to reinstall it [ search realtec/97d ]

Check speakers etc are plugged in properly, make sure there are no loose wires.

Open volume control and make sure the volume isnt too low or muted.

Check the speakers and make sure they work and check the volume.

use the cd that came with PC/Sound card/motherboard to reinstall the sound drivers.

Bad drivers, sound control options changed, or even unintentional muting has been common. Also be sure your speakers are even still plugged in, and to the right port.

change the windows xp to windows vista
