Money-saving tips for going to the hairdressers (Generally, but mainly about Liverpool, ENgland)?

I'll be using one in Liverpool (England). I'm wondering how you can get a cheaper haircut generally (WITHOUT cutting it yourself - I'm hopeless!), but also whether any hairdressers in Liverpool do discounts/model nights/cheaper days/anything else similar.

schools charge less. get a student to do it.
they get experience (with the teachers' help) and you get a less expensive haircut.

and there are some AWESOME schools in your area (liverpool).
that's where one of my old bosses was taught and she's amazing.
