According to the Bible, God promised to Noah never to harm the earth again. "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though the inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy living creatures, as I have done". The token of the promise was this: "I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember My covenant between Me and you and all living creatures of every kind". And, Badboy, God saved only Noah and his family because only Noah and his family did what God really wanted them to do. They were the only to obey God, this is why God saved them

The main theme of Genesis 1-11 was murder. It began with Cain and Abel and expanded from there. By the time of Noah, the worshippers of God (the "sons of Elohim" of ch. 6) began to drift away marry foreigners (the "daughters of men"). This is the basis of Moses' prohibition of the same thing and the warning that this practice invites the worship of idols into Israel.

After the flood, God promised never again to punish all mankind with the death penalty as a result of our own compulsion to harm one another. He passed on the authority of capital punishment to men (Genesis 9:5-7) so that we could regulate ourselves. As for his promise, he used the rainbow as a reminder that we can look to God for mercy even though we fail each other.
