Both formats are useful... the Hard Drive format is faster and easier to load into the computer... but you need to make an archive copy of everything that you record in case you loose your computer. The DV cassette is a bit more difficult to copy into the computer for use however, the DV cassette is a nice archive copy. It really depends on how you use it. Most professionals I know use and prefer the DV cassette -- mostly because it is a stable version of their work [hard drives tend to die and be problems] ... many consumers will likely like the speed and easy use the hard drive offers -- at the cost of an immediate archive copy.

BTW: The quality of both is excelent and similar.

Regarding Camcorders. I myself have a Camcorder that uses tape. I am beginning to find it tiresome for many reasons.

When I can afford it I will definitely be going for a Hard Drive Model Which providing it can give me 8 hours before download, should be more than adequate for most uses. Plus they are less of a fiddle, and the price is coming down as I write.

Not much difference in quality of picture unless you are getting one of the HD hard drives - DV tends to be cheaper, but its a format on it's way out - Hard drive is much quicker to edit etc.

Here's a helpful guide on the different types of recording media:

All format's have the pros & cons - for example, if you plan to do lots of editing (movie making), then DV (mini DV) would be the best format, etc.

Hard drive - that's where it's all going to end up anyway so save yourself a step. Plastic and tape is just for polluters. HD will let you download it, edit it and repackage it for your friends much more efficiently.

I'm sticking with tape, simply because I want to edit things before I show them. You *can* edit HD, but the quality starts to suffer too quickly for my taste.

Little canines is powerful, consistent with Gb tape is extra maximum reasonably-priced and better high quality then a Flashcontinual or HDD. its all the way down to compression, extra compression decrease the time-honored, can not get around that. Tape is the suited archive medium, extra solid than DVD, flow with the canines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RR
