As a rule, if it's too hot, it will die; if it becomes too cold, it will simply stop working (and the dough will quit rising) until it gets warm again.

yeast is a living thing and likes a very narrow temperature range, between 70 to 100 degrees. If the yeast gets too cold it simply goes inactive, this is why you can freeze dough and then bake it later. If it gets too hot it dies.

There is nothing as too cold if you are storing fresh yeast,the live organism stays dormant until you provide it with warmth & something like sugar & flour to grow & multiply.If you are not interested in making it work for you,like raising dough,nor in saving it,then you could make things hot for the yeast,hot or boiling water could kill it for sure.

As yeast is living, if it becomes really hot, you'll kill it. If it's slightly too hot, it just won't work as well. If it gets a bit too cold, it won't work as well, because it doesn't respire as much (and produce the carbon dioxide that makes the dough rise). The best temperature is around 30 degrees centigrade.

While in storage?- hopefully it will survive it. Yeasts are living things, just dormant until you add water to it, and then they do their work.

Some merchants still sell these even if they have been compromised by adverse environment.
Thats why some bread do not rise. The yeast you used is essentially dead and of no value anymore.

The best thing to do, is try it out. Bake something. If the result is ok, keep it. If less than expected, just barely rising, throw the whole lot out.

when yeast becomes too cold it will halt the rising process.yeast needs food,warmth and moisture to grow kinda like a bacteria which is really what yeast is,its a type of fungus,sorry if i put you off your bread! yeast can be rescued from being cold and it can be re-used but if yeast gets too hot you are affectivly killing the bugs and theres no going back.

Too cold -- great. I always keep mine in the freezer, as it lasts longer that way. I don't know why other answers suggest that it can't take the cold, as I buy it in large packets and it can last for a year or more in the freezer. I wish I could demonstrate the results!

Too hot -- not advisable, as the yeast will ferment and deteriorate.

Cold is ok espcially if it is fresh yeast (which can only be kept for about 6 days in fridge)

Hot the yeast would probably die

If you put boiling water on to yeast you will kill it! Too cold and you won't activate it!! Your bread will be heavy and won't rise!

Cold is OK, it just won't be that active. Too hot can kill it off though. Hand hot it better.
