My dog is a beautiful sheltie and is 11 years old and I understand that her "hair follicles" have died in her tail and it looks like a rat tail and is ugly looking. Is there any kind of medication or vitamins that can cure this problem?

Ask your vet. I'm not sure if anything can be done.

From your question I understand you already took it to the vet.
There probably isn't much you can do. What do you do when a person loses hair?
But if the dog isn't affected by this, don't worry about it. She might look ugly to you, you are just not used to it. A dog is your best friend, a loving character, not an ornament.

Take her to the vet, it could be her thyroids. Why on earth do people wait so long while their pet is sick and then ask a bunch of novices online? Take your damn pets to the vet.
