They want your cell phones turned off for the duration of the flight and you should have them off. But can you physically have your phone on or open duing a flight? Yes. My husband turned his phone on just to see how far up he would get service and it wasn't that far. It also drains your battery while the phone is searching for a signal. I have heard that some people can get signal when the plane is approaching and taking off. However this is the time when the pilots needs less interferance so you could get in trouble.

If you are talking about mp3 players, laptops, DVD players and game devices. You can use those after the plane has reached cruisng altitude and turn them off before landing. However, I used my iPod once the entire time while we were landing and no harm done. Its just a precaution.

A mobile what? There are so many things you can call a mobile.

Just dont expect connectivity on the following portable equipments
1. Laptop- yes you can use it on a place
2. PDAs-for games- yes
3. MP3- forlistening to music, yes

The rule of thumb is- ask the steward/stewardess if you can and when you can.

Only two way devices are prohibited (cell phones). And of course there is not internet unless you use the planes (if they have it on board and some planes do)

You can't receive or send calls or messages, but if your phone has a setting where you can disable that, I'm sure you can. Some airlines are allowing cell phones to be used inflight, so if you're flying on one of them, you can use your cell minus some money paid for the service.
