I have a lot of problems I am dealing with best as I can,
caused by other "people" & I therefore suffer a lot of tension headaches.
Rather than live on Nurofen, is there a technique I can use myself to massage my head which will relieve the tension?

Sorry to hear you are dealing with these headaches, I went through them myself. As far as a head massage, I do whatever feels best, however the base of the neck, just below the hairline and your temples are also main focus points. If I were you and you have health insurance, I would seek the advice of a Neurologist - i got these marcaine injections and felt so much better afterwards. Also counseling, it's a place to vent to a "stranger" and you'll feel better afterwards. I'm not one for meds but these headaches are sometimes more painful than migraines and something that shouldn't be ignored. Also, as someone else mentioned Yoga is great for this...there is a form of Yoga called Bikram, look it up online, it sounds crazy (cause your in a room about 105 degrees) but it helps so much. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear you are struggling with tension headaches you need to address the cause of the tension and try meditation and breathing techniques to help with this but in the meantime you need a solution right?....A lot of the tension will come from the shoulders, neck and scalp muscles...so these must be incorporated into the massage...obviously this is not easy to do yourself...but you can massage each shoulder alternating from one side to the other using the hand of the opposite arm of course....small deep circular movements are best....this also applies to the back of the neck...to massage the scalp...put your hands at the back of your head so that your thumbs face down towards your neck and use your thumbs in a gentle shampooing motion to gently ease the tight muscles...don't forget your temples and your sinus areas too, Using a natural oil such as almond, olive, coconut is great as it also nourishes the hair and scalp...try mixing a few drops of peppermint and lavendar oil to help ease tired tense muscles or use mustard oil which is good too....just doesn;t smell so good!!!! If all else fails why not see if your local college are requiring clients for Indian Head Massage...you will get a wonderful treatment at a fraction of the cost and you really will feel the benefit...hope this helps...good luck

You want magical solution to your problem?

Yoga and deep breathing techniques.

We have plenty of something that is free and many of us are not using. That is ------ Air. Yes, air. It does wonders.

OK, sit up. Hold one nostril, count to about 10 and inhale right up until your lungs are filled. Inhale a bit more even though it is full. Hold for the count of 5. Now, release the nostril and breathe through the other. Repeat 3 times.

Hold the other nostril, same procedure as above. Repeat 3 times.

For this exercise, there should not be any noise - choose a place and time when you hear nothing. Lie on your back, absolutely still. Your hands on your side.

Now imagine your tension is leaving your body from your head - s l o w l y - down to your toes. Your tension is leaving from you toes.

Now do this 3 times.
Just do it, NOW. It is Free....!!!

You can thank me later, through this forum.

Millions of Americans suffer regularly from headaches of all kinds, and headaches are the number one excuse for time missed from work. Most headaches fall into one of three categories—tension headaches, migraines, or cluster headaches.Tension headaches are usually caused by muscle and posture problems, and can be made worse if you are stressed, anxious, tired, depressed, or there is a lot of noise or light.Migraine headaches are not necessarily worse than tension headaches in terms of pain, but instead tend to be concentrated on only one side of your head, and can be made worse when you move, talk, or cough.Cluster headaches are defined as pain that starts (usually) after you’ve fallen asleep, first at a lower intensity and increasing to a peak that can last for several hours

Drink Water - running a body that is low on water is like running a car that is low on oil - things don't work as well and can cause problems.
Take a couple of swigs of molasses it contains magnesium and potassium hat are needed to regulate things in the body.
Pick up a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Definitely get her to a hospital! I've been there with intense pain. They never found anything but at least I went and they took the pain away with pain killers. Could be a migraine or something really serious. They need to do tests to find out. Don't let her drive. Get a neighbor to take her or call 9-1-1.

Have you tried the roll on headache stuff you can buy in the chemists - that is supposed to be really good. Otherwise massage your temples in firm circular motions. Good luck and try not to let the other people stress you out too much...

most headaches come from shoulder and back tension. I find yoga the best way to self massage those areas.
