Cats, I'm afraid to say where not blessed with the gift of brains, they are pure instinct. You should take it as a compliment though as she is obviously content not hungry or tired not worried about anything in fact. We might think staring at a wall is boring but then our brains are constantly ticking over, cats on the other hand if they have nothing to do or worry about they are quite content to just sit, the fact the she is facing the wall just means it was in front of her when she decided to sit down.

Mine stares at the wall and then jumps over and over and over at the wall. I am talking HIGH up on the wall. I look and there is nothing there! Not even a little speck of anything!

Cats are born hunters, there could be something on the wall that you don't see, like a bug, a spider web moving or just a spot.
Cats eyes are amazing, they can see things we can't.
Hope this helps.

Do you have it on Catnip?
Maybe it hears something on the other side.
Perhaps it's counting the dots and imperfections in the wall. (must be really bored)
Haven't you ever stared at the ceiling for a while, just thinking?

He is making a fool of you. He only does it when your watching doesn't he? Explain to a friend with a good sense of humour to check on him when your looking the other way. Cats love stairs!

Maybe he sees a light on there that you don't. Mine stares at the ceiling cause she can hear squirrels on the roof. Then she runs around the living room trying to figure out how to catch them.

your cat sees your dead watching over you. dogs have the same ability, & some people with the gift. as long as your animal doesn't show fear or hostility, the ghost is a good one. pay heed to your cat & take comfort or warning depending on your cat's reaction.
