No, most Iranians want to be freed from their evil islamic rulers but are trapped and are waiting for someone to help free them. Many Iranians have been murdered for saying they want freedom. We should help them.

Iranian leftists/communists and Islamists got together to throw off the Shah and then when the Islamists started jailing and killing leftists/communists, most off them escaped abroad, so today's Iran is left without a balancing side. Now, even if you are a moderate, you have to abide by the rules or you get punished. Before Ahmedinecad (or however his name is written in English), the society was trying to go towards a more moderate direction, but the mullahs put a stop to that.
In every day life, Iranians (I consciously donot use the word Persian, as there is an Azeri minority in Iran, which is supressed, too, by the way) flirt, have house parties, use narcotics (very widespread, I hear) and want live a normal life, but the mullahs brainwash the wider, poorer population and get elected again and again.
If you ask the mullahs they will call this a democracy.

There is a very strong reformist movement in Iran. Also, I have personally met many Iranians who are not 'hard-core' Muslims.

There's also a difference between "hard-core Muslim" and the "fanatical Jihadist Zealot." It's like the difference between Ned Flanders and David Koresh.

There are a few different religions in Iran including Muslims, and there are varying degrees of how they practice their religion. There are extreme Muslims, those who are the majority and are moderate, and those who know little of their faith. Those that are Muslim are generally Shiite.

No. Most are moderates. There are Christians and Jews living in Iran.
Mostly the country's hardline comes from patriotism.

Simple answer, no. They are people who have dreams, ambitions and needs in life just like the rest of us. Whatever religion they decide to follow is their choice and theirs alone. They are entitled to the same amount of religious freedom as the rest of us in Western cultures.
