i like all the old traditional stuff like pass the parcel, with small packets of haribo between the layers and a pressie inside the middle.musical statues + chairs, a dance mat is more modern or karaoke if you have a machine. you could organise a tresure hunt with clues hidden around the house leading to a box of treasure at the end for everyone to share,
i would never try to entertain that many in my house personally. when my boys were little we hired the sports hall at the local leisure centre which had a giant inflatable play area and also a seperate party room for food. wacky warehouse is also brilliant for that age group, they can run wild in the soft play areas, wear themselves out and have a meal and party games organised by the hostess.
i think your daughter will probably be a little too old for the games for the little ones so she could have the important role of music director to make her feel included.

This is the best website. It has all themes and parties that many parents have used. Even if you don't have a theme, it will still help. I saw a few on there that work for the 3-5 ages that still allow the 9 yr. old to be a helper. The scooby doo ones have the older one being the ghost that is unmasked at the end! Good Luck.

Things like pass the parcel and musical chairs / statues are always good. You could let your 9 year old be in charge of the music control on the games, I know I used to like doing that for my little sisters birthday parties!

Another game that sticks in my head is my mum used to blow bubbles, and the first kid to catch one on their arm and show her would get a prize, it was really hard!!

Hope your son has a great day!

Musical cheers is always a hoot! Pass the parcel is also good if you put lolly pops in between the layers so the everyone feels like there are winning. Statues is also really fun for kids.

I use to host childrens birthday parties at McDonald's...these really do work!!

Pin the tail on the donkey
Pass the parcel

Musical statues

And also the game where you have to cut up squares of chocolate, using a knife and fork, with gloves, scarf and hats on....cant remember what its called!

have a great party, and happy birthday to your little boy!

what about the classics, like musical chairs or pass-the-parcel? These always go down well with the kids. You could also try getting one of those things the kids bash with a stick, sorry, can't remember what's it's real name is

The classics, pinata, pin the tale on the donkey, giant snakes and ladders (make it yourself), simon says, parce the parcel, musical chairs (or statues as there is an age range), hide and seek, but make sure that you designate places where they can go. and have enough people around to help.

All the games mentioned by claire. last year i had a face painter at my 4yr old's party. she did their faces before the fun and games and they loved it. the boys got to be spiderman, lion etc and the girls got to be butterflys etc. I found the face painter on a visit to London zoo and she was very reasonable.
